Monday Mishmash 6/25/12

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. New Puppy!  We adopted a German shepherd puppy last Tuesday. Her name is Hadley, and she such a sweetheart.
  2. Spencer Hill Press Summer Blog Run  Today I'm over J.L. Spelbring's blog for the Spencer Hill Press Summer Blog Run. Judy interviewed me, and I'm giving away some awesome SWAG for Touch of Death.
  3. Reading  I can't seem to catch up on my reading this summer, and having a new puppy isn't really giving me more time to relax and read either. :(
  4. Summer  Wow, did summer hit with a bang. It's been ridiculously hot!
  5. Revising  I think this is the week I start revising my latest WIP. I've had ample time away, and I'm ready to dive in.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

Despite my Reader's Block and Next Book Blues, I made a big step as a writer, I invite all to take part in my Query Blog Hop, go to talkinganimaladdicts.com for further details.

Other things on mind mind, like Kelly I'm trying to catch up on my reading, it's slow but better than nothing.

Congratulations on your new puppy. I remember when my Pepper was little,he was so tiny he fit in the palms of my hand, now I can barely lift him into the car to take him to the groomers.

He's 16 now(Hard to believe that's "Old" in Dog years...) but he's aging more gracefully physically than I am mentally, but that's part of what makes us a good match.

    1. Blogger must be acting up, Taurean, because your comment went to my email instead of here.

I have an 11.5-year-old German shepherd too. She's amazing. I hope the puppy grows up to be like her. Pepper is such a great dog name.

I'll check out your query blog hop even though I don't have a query to contribute.

    2. Sorry about that, hope that wasn't my fault. I'm prone to making these kinds of mistakes early in the morning.

It took me weeks to figure out the right name. I named Pepper for his feisty energy, and he still has it now, despite being "geriatric."

The only concerns is watching his weight and that he snores now, but it's still WAY better than dealing with hip replacements and weird behavior stuff.

    3. Not your fault at all. It's Blogger.

Yeah, you're lucky Pepper is healthy. My older dog is pretty healthy too but she does have some hip issues.

Hi Kelly! Wow ~ New puppy! That's really exciting. I don't know much about dogs; I can only remember having one when I was little. And I remembered it as an exciting and (always) fun time. And Hadley is a great name for a pup! :D Best of luck and enjoy the new cutie!

      Thanks so much, Ara!

  4. I can't seem to finish three books I started, not one is a work of fiction. I did share my cemetery tours in New Orleans though, with pictures! :D

  5. Monday Mishmash is a great idea for a post. I may have to steal your idea! We haven't succumbed to getting a dog yet. I'm adamant we get out of diapers before we get a dog :)

  6. Puppies are so wonderful (until they start chewing your favorite shoes). And they're great for kids to grow up with.

I've been doing little BUT reading; however, I have a new novel in the works, and many happy projects ahead. Enjoy your edits!

  7. Looking for a quiet day somewhere! But none in sight. Two kids have to be packed off the camp, plus doctors appointments, plus work...
    Congrats on your new puppy!

  8. I'll check out the blog run.

I have cats, but I'd like to have a puppy. They seem to keep people busy.

    Happy revising.

    1. I have a cat too. She doesn't interact with people much, not like a dog does.

    1. Hey, Cecilia. Yes, the weather is cooler today. I'm enjoying it, except for the rain, but I won't complain because at least we aren't dying of heat.

  16. Greetings Lady Kelly!

I know. you thought you'd got rid of me, right? Heh. Sorry. It's like the TV in Poltergeist. I'm baaa-ack... :-).

New Puppy! Well, congratulations! Puppies are cute. I think that's where I wnet wrong. I never did manage to do cute... Anybody want to adopt a short, fat, bald and ugly writer instead of a puppy? :-)
Summer Blog Run. Well and all. I walk round in a T-shirt in -20C. So this Summer thing? Yuck! And _running_ in summer? Madness! So if running or exercising in Summer is madness - does that mean sanity is fattening? My waistline says it is... :-( :-).
Reading. Lordy. I remember actually reading. I mean other people's writing, not line edits, content edits and self-edits. Note to self - read more... oh. There's an email from my Content Editor. Sigh... :-)
Summer - hot. See 'sanity is fattening' and T-shirts in -20C :-).
Revising. Well - if it counts, I just sent back my pre-edits to that evil Content Editor for 'Road like a River'. It's not out until January. So there's loads of time, right? Riiiight... :-P.

And on my mind? Well, that's why you escaped me for a while. 'A Comedy of Terrors' released on Thursday June 14th. So last week was the Great Social Networking Hamster Wheel of Self Promotion. No, it was! Of course - it was for everyone else as well. It's busy and noisy out there! I did get a blog post done last week - a potted history of how CoT came to be. And last Monday I had a release party in a Virtual World. Yay Inworldz (www.inworldz.com)! We ran for eight hours, with live bands (virtual, but live, real people playing and singing), dancing and, like everything! Oh - and I read some stuff to them too (blushes). I'll put up a blog post as soon as I've edited the pictires properly.
So now I'm on the other Great Hamster Wheel. The Great Reviewer Hunt :-). Three 4 star Amazon reviews so far - but I need to find some more Reviewers. Lordy. The writing really _is_ the easy part :-).

    1. Wow, you've been busy, Graeme! Congrats on your release and the good reviews. Definitely good stuff. I'll have to check out your blog post, and definitely post those pictures!

I exercise all year long, but the summer can make it brutal. I think I burn twice the calories thanks to the heat.

  17. Great interview, Kelly. And love the swag, btw. Congrats on the new puppy. I bet your daughter is having a great time with her. Have fun editing! :)

  18. Yay puppy! Congrats. They are handful but so worth it. Hope you post pictures of her. I'm working on my second novel. Since I have more characters, I'm figuring out how to arrange each section so the reader won't get turned off. Good luck with your editing.

  20. I've had three German Shepherds from birth to death. I love them and for me there is no other dog to have. Alsations are handsome but the GS's are a lot stronger and less prone to rheumatism in the back legs. Enjoy her.

    1. Well, Hadley does like to chew things, including people, but she responds to the word "No" so that's great. My daughter says, "No, Hadley" and she Hadley stops in her tracks.

  23. Loved the pics of the new family addition. I am trying to catch up after being on yet another whirlwind trip. I spent the weekend being unfaithful to my current WIP. While on a walk last week I was gifted with a new character ... and a story. What the heck? I don't know how that happened,or what to say about my unfaithfulness. What's a writer to do...

    1. I've had that happen. One of two things can happen. You can jot down ideas and let the new idea rest while you finish your current WIP. Or, you can let your current WIP rest while you dive into the new idea. I've done both. It depends which pulls at me more. Good luck! And remember, ideas are good things. :)

  24. A new puppy! What fun! You will be busy now. :) I look forward to reading the interview. This week I am looking to get some writing done. That is goal number one! It has been close to 100 degrees here 4 days out of the last week. I am happy to wake up today to cooler temperatures. :)
