Monday Mishmash 8/6/12

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. Summer Giveaway Hop  In case you missed it, I'm participating in the Summer Giveaway Hop hosted by Kathy at I'm a Reader Not a Writer. The giveaway is open until August 8 and it's international. Enter here.
  2. Touch of Death Galley  I'm proofreading the galley of my book! Eep! I'm so excited. It looks gorgeous, and I couldn't be happier with how Spencer Hill Press has made this book shine. :D
  3. Guest Post  Last Friday, I did a guest post on Cecilia Robert's blog. I talked all about creating memorable heroes and villains. Check it out here.
  4. Free Newsletter  My free monthly newsletter goes out this evening. If you aren't signed up to receive it and you want to, click here.
  5. Picture book sketches  I got to see the sketches for one of my upcoming picture books and they are adorable! I'm so happy with them. I love seeing my story through the eyes of an illustrator.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. Awww sounds like you're having an exciting week! It always fun to see how an illustrator views one's characters :) Question. So do the Galleys look like as close to how the book will look when published or still working on final touches? Curious.

    1. They do look very close. We have some minor things we have to tweak thanks to the programming and the formatting issues it can cause, but other than that, Touch of Death is almost ready for the world! :D

After a lovely family day out yesterday, I feel recharged and inspired this morning (not normal for a Monday). I'm making lots of progress with my WiP and life in general feels good.

I think I'm not going to like this very much. I'll have to console myself and write. :)

  14. I'm such a picture book fan. I have a small collection because I buy them for children in my family, and then can't part with them. I wind up having to buy another present. Oye! Lovely about your galley.

  15. Yay on the galley!! That's got to be both thrilling and terrifying. :)

I'm still doing revisions....*sigh* Better get back to it.

    1. Thanks. I hate myself in pictures. LOL

The picture book is Magic at the Museum. I can't say much just yet because the contract isn't finalized until we officially sign on an illustrator. These sketches were for me to approve, which I did in a heartbeat. I love them. :)

  20. I like to start my Mondays with your Mishmash- because it is a kick-in-the-pants and a reminder that here's Kelly, a busy mother who manages to do what I and four others couldn't in that space/time.
Good guest post also. In Novels character is everything.
    Your new picture is lovely.

  21. How fun to see the new pictures. I can imagine it is an awesome feeling. It sounds like the edits are going well! Can't wait for the book.

I am busy getting ready to go back to school. Have to set up my classroom and do all kinds of school related things. My mind is going a mile a minute- because I also have people to visit, writing to get done, and books to read! I need to slow down time. :)

  22. Sounds exciting! Me, I'm mostly trying to survive the heat.

  23. It's a holiday today, and my city's very busy today, with a busker's festival, Colonel By Day, and the Rideau Canal festival. All of which is a good distraction... which I need at the moment.

  29. Eeek! So much goodness for you this week. Congrats! On my mind is the following:

    1. Camp NaNoWriMo: need to get cracking if I want to finish.
    2. Clutter: My house is getting out of hand.
    3. Fitness: Making sure I keep my gym schedule during this busy month.
    4. Heat: The ridiculous heat wave has broken for a couple of days.
    5. Niece: She just got married and I'm sorry, but she's entirely too young to do such a thing. I don't care if she was 40. It makes me feel old. :)
