Monday Mishmash 8/13/12

Happy Monday! This mishmash will be a little shorter because I was given a blog award.
  1. Touch of Death is available for pre-order!  I was so excited last week to find out Touch of Death is now available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Yay!
  2. Kindergarten Orientation  Thursday is kindergarten orientation for my baby girl. I can't believe she's going to kindergarten already.
  3. Picture book contract signed  The picture book I've mentioned here is finally contracted, and the illustrator has been selected. It will be out in the next 9 months!
  4. Thanks for Being You blog award  I was given this award by the very sweet Katrina DeLallo. Kat is a great friend and one of my critique partners. Thanks, Kat. The rules for this one are insane. A total of 18 facts about myself and answering 11 questions. Wow! I'm totally cheating. You guys know me. I'm an open book. But here are a few things I might not have told you before:
  • While I was querying agents in 2011, I played Katy Perry's Firework over and over and cried.
  • I'm equally terrified and excited for the release of my book.
  • In 3rd grade everyone called me K.C. (my initials—Kelly Christine) because there were so many Kelly's in my class.
  • When Touch of Death became available for pre-order, I did my hair like the girl on my cover. (Yes, I'm a dork!)
  • I named my treadmill Teddy the Treddy.
I'm allowed to pass this on to any number of people, so today I invite you all to accept this award from me because I appreciate each and every one of you.

That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

    1. Oh I wish that were the case. I'll be getting edits for the sequel to Touch of Death around that time, but I'm worried I won't even be able to focus on them.

Thanks for pre-ordering Touch of Death, Nereyda! <3

  2. Congratulations on all your book news. I'm sure your daughter will love kindergarten.

This week I have an exciting but sad chapter to write. One of my beloved characters is murdered but she goes down fighting. It also means I'm closer to the end of the first draft.

    Have a great week.

    1. Congrats on getting closer to the finish, Fi. And good luck with that chapter. It sounds like an emotional one.

I'm sure my daughter will love kindergarten, too. It's going to be tougher on me than her. ;)

  3. I like your new profile picture, Kelly! You'll love her going to kindy, too! School is the only time, I do not feel guilty if I am working. The rest of the time I do.

  5. Pre-order? Very exciting! You are cute doing your hair the same way as the character. :)

  6. No. Thanks for being you!!!! Congratulations on the pre-orders and the children's book. I think I cry when I'm looking for an agent too. That must be why I gave up on that idea. LOL

    1. It is definitely an emotional roller coaster to query agents, isn't it? And thanks for the congratulations.

  7. I think we need to see some photographic evidence of you channeling your cover model. Congrats on getting one step closer. January is almost here!

    1. No photographic evidence. I don't like getting my picture taken. ;)

  8. Seeing it on Amazon makes it SO REAL!! My book recently appeared on Ammie, but there's no cover yet. To say that I'm dying to see what design they come up with is, of course, an understatement. It's one of the benchmark points in the whole process, isn't it?

  10. I remember that first day of kindergarten.
My son came home and asked if he could take a rope to school to tie up the girl who had tried to kiss him on the playground. Now hes about to drive
Across the country to start grad school. At one time that wd have been impossible to believe! Wonderful news about your book! Will
Order once I get back to civilization --at cape cod giving my Mum what may be her last vacation in a place she dearly loves. Seasons of life and all
    That.

  12. Congrats, Kelly :) Yay for TOD being on pre-order. :)
Aw... the kindergarten day should be interesting. The first time I took my daughter for orientation, my daughter was curious. The next day she didn't want to remain there. Happened for a week and it took a while to get used and when she did it she wanted to spend more time time there. :D It's fun to see these gradual/abrupt changes. :)

    1. I'm worried when she realizes she has to go 5 days a week, she's going to complain. That and going from 2.5 hours at a time to 6 hours is going to be tough on her.

  13. Yay, Kelly. Your book is available, and from the ranking, it's already selling!
    This is a wonderful milestone.

  15. Crazy rules, weren't they? I like the name of your treadmill. Once upon a time, I had a bicycle called Philippe, after the horse in Beauty and the Beast.

  16. Darn you, Katy Perry. That song chokes me up too. :)

  17. What a great post! I am sure your daughter will love kindergarten- but it is amazing how fast time flies. Awesome news about TOD being available for pre-order! Also, yeah about the picture book contract! Lots of exciting news for you! I think it is fabulous that you did your hair like the cover. :) I bet it looked nice. 20. You're a newb, as Sheldon would say, at sending off your baby to the big bad world, aka kindergarten. After sending off five, I'm so happy to let them go at the end of summer. She'll be fine. Enjoy having your first release out there. The feeling of 'it's almost here' never wears off.

  22. Teddy the Treddy ~ That's creative! I haven't named any sport equipment yet, or my walking shoes (maybe I'll start with them). Congrats on the PB contract and Touch of Death's pre-order release! And I hope your daughter has lots of fun at her kindergarten orientation. (Actually, I didn't know there's orientation for kindergartners.)
