- WIP My WIP is finished and in the hands of one of my most trusted beta readers. I hope she likes it.
- New Idea As usual, I finish one WIP and instantly get an idea for another. Why my brain works this way, I don't know. I'm jotting down my ideas until I can get into this one. It's going to have to wait until after revisions.
- Pocono Retreat I'm all registered for this year's Pocono Retreat, my local SCBWI conference in April. Anyone else going? Laurie Halse Anderson will be there!
- Super Teacher Worksheets If you are a teacher and you don't know about this site, you need to check it out. It's a great resource for teachers, and I happen to write for them. :) Find it here.
- UnCONventional This anthology released 1/13 from Spencer Hill Press. It's 22 paranormal tales. What's not to love?
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?
As usual you've got a full week planned.
ReplyDeleteI'm considering whether to enter my WiP into a writing contest. I'm also revamping the WiP.
I'm doing my best to keep writing my small stones throughout January.
Finally, I'm learning WordPress and redesigning my website.
Fi, I went through a phase where I entered a lot of writing contests. It was a great learning experience for me. Good luck if you decide to do it.
DeleteAnd good luck redesigning your website. Since I just started this blog not long ago, I clearly remember how much work that can be. ;)
A day of revisions for me. The retreat sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI'll be revising most of the day, too. Good luck!
DeleteThanks for mentioning S.T.W., Kelly! If anyone from this blog signs up, let me know and I'll add an extra 4 months free to their subscription!!
ReplyDeleteAlso - good luck with your WIP!!
Tim, you're too nice!
DeleteSee, everyone? That's why you should sign up today!
I'm all signed up for the Pocono Retreat...Laurie Halse Anderson!!! Yay! Looking forward to seeing you there.
ReplyDeleteOh yay, Katie! I'm glad I'll see you there again this year. :)
DeleteThe speed at which you write is impressive. I feel as if I write more like the ice age...creeping along one painful word at a time. Still, my calendar is open this week so I'm focusing on my WIP. Happy writing!
ReplyDeleteAnne, I struggle if I don't fast draft. It's the only way I can get the flow down pat. It's good and bad because it takes over my entire life, but my writing is better for it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anne about you writing so quickly. Good for you! I am finishing up my WIP over the next few weeks, freelancing and blogging. Jam-packed for all of us, I see.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day.
Good luck, Karen. You do sound busy!
DeleteBusy, busy. I am going to SFWC (San francisco) can't wait to get away!
ReplyDeleteJodi, have a great time. :)
DeleteYou have a pretty full schedule there, Kell! :) Me, I'm taking some time being grouchy that my boss INSISTS on working today, and that I have to come in to work on a day that is normally my day off. Grrrr. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that, Cat. I hope the day goes quickly for you.
DeleteThat's great about your WIP! I'm finishing up my ELEMENTAL's sequel to send to Kate. *crosses fingers* :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, fun! I'm looking forward to ELEMENTAL's release!
DeleteSounds like you've been busy! Congrats on finishing the WIP. Good luck with that! I have an "idea book" that I keep with me at all times to write down new ideas. It's filling up quickly! I've been insanely busy lately. I'm knee deep in revisions. working on several other projects, and I need to blog.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you've been doing well :)
Thanks, Courtney. Good luck with those revisions. I'm hoping to finish mine either today or tomorrow.
Deletehello
ReplyDeletethanks for following my blog, thought I'd check out yours. Now a follower!
regards,
mood
Thanks for the follow, mood!
DeleteI'm usually at my volunteer teaching assignment right now but it's MLK day and I guess that is what is on my mind. Peace.
ReplyDeleteThe Desert Rocks, enjoy your day off. :)
ReplyDeleteGee, I wish the teachers' site had college lit stuff. That's what I need! The SH anthology looks really great!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, yeah, STW is for younger grades. It would be great if there was a site for older kids, too! The anthology does look good, doesn't it.?
DeleteThank you for stopping by today.
ReplyDeleteYeah for you! That is awesome that your WIP is off tou a great beta reader. Good luck with your next flashdraft! I can't believe how qickly you get your words down on paper. I have to try flashdrafting- it sounds like it is very productive!! The retreat sounds amazing- I have to check my calendar for April. I would love to go!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Jess, do you live near the Poconos? Let me know if you go. We'll meet up.
DeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteYou go girl. You are always so busy! I don't have a membership but plan on using some of the free teacher worksheets and ideas from that site. If I ever start actually getting ahead and making some money from my book, I will probably subscribe. Some great ideas and I didn't know you wrote for them. Cool.
Allyn, I love STW. What they do for teachers is amazing! I'm so honored to write for them. :)
DeleteKelly's our most talented writer! (Don't tell the others I said that.) I don't know how she comes up with new ideas each week.
DeleteGood luck with your book, Allyn!!
Aw, Tim, you're making me blush! Having a great market to write for helps inspire creativity. :)
DeleteCongrats on the WIP - I'm sure your Beta will love it, awesome to have new ideas - isn't it fun to play around and daydream on them?
ReplyDeleteYour retreat does sound awesome - wish I lived in the US- you guys have so much fun!
:) Tee
Tee, you don't have conferences where you live? There's always WriteOnCon, the online one in August.
DeleteLove those super teacher worksheets! Congrats on all those ideas percolating through your brain.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lee! :)
DeleteYou are my weekly inspiration, that is on my mind. I love how your mind works and how your stories flow. I always more on my mind that my life allows me get to. I don't panic over this anymore (once upon a time, oh there was woe), but not know. Only thing on my mind is my own WIP, and the occasional fragment of characters in my head that are sick of my current WIP.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your WIP, Brenda. I'm looking forward to reading it. :)
Deletecongratulations for finishing one WIP and getting an idea for another. Best part of writing for me is when that story hits me.
ReplyDeleteDonna, it's just so funny that revising always brings out my creativity.
DeleteI'm obsessing over (polishing up) a query letter and - well, that'll probably be the focus of my week.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with it. I have a very strange fondness for query letters.
DeleteIt's great to be able to finish one thing and jump into another. I tend to have a couple of WIPs going so when I finish the main one, I jump over to the next one in line.
ReplyDeleteI love Super Teacher Worksheets. As a writer I like to study them. I hope to be able to sub to them when they open to submissions again.
Keep staying busy.
Rick, I can only work on one novel at a time. I usually have a bunch of small pieces going at once on top of the novel though.
DeleteSuper Teacher Worksheets is amazing! I can't say enough good things about the site or the person running it. :)
Trusted Beta readers are the best, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteI'm just now trying to get back to my writing after not writing a word for over a year. For now, my goal is to just keep my blog up. I'm trying to post a minimum of three times a week this month and work up gradually to blogging every day by summer.
ReplyDeleteI am also trying to find a writing group here. I moved here three years ago and haven't found one yet. I really need the interaction with other writers.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Corina, have you tried an online writing group? There are plenty of them out there. It might be a start.
ReplyDeleteLady Kelly
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to confess to being late this week. And I can;t even blame the dog I don't have for eating the homework I didn't do :-).
So why am I late? Well _ I confess, I was away with the fairies. Or at least, the Flowers. I was guest blogging over at Gail Roughton Branan's 'Flowers on the Fence: http://flowersonthefence.blogspot.com/2012/01/of-shadows-and-light.html
I think she's still speaking to me. I hope she's still speaking to me (blushes).
I that post, I offered the beginning of a WIP I have. Or the skeleton of a WIP. I'd be interested in any thoughts...
