Destiny's Fire by Trisha Wolfe (Review)

Product Details
Synopsis:
It's the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind-part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven. As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez's newfound power rockets out of control, it's a Narcolym who could change her fate...if she can trust him. Dez's guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.

My thoughts:
Between the gorgeous cover, the great story line, and the fact that Trisha is one of my agency sisters, I knew I had to read this book. But... I had no clue it was going to become one of my favorite reads in a long time. Seriously. I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Dez is a kick butt character who has her flaws. She can take on any guy in a fight, which is just awesome, but she's also extremely caring. She's very real and her emotions are raw. I got so wrapped up in her relationships with Jace and Reese and couldn't wait to see how the story would play out. The action scenes are intense, and I had to keep reading to see what would happen next. Add in Trisha's flawless writing and this book is definitely one I'll be reading again.
If you haven't bought this book already, go get it now! Seriously! Go!

Just for fun: Ladies, would you want to be more powerful than any guy, even the one you're dating? And, guys, would you be okay dating a girl who was more powerful than you?

    1. Beth, he'd be too scared not to carry your stuff. ;) I think it would work out just fine.

  4. Sounds awesome - can't wait to read it. And to answer your question, I might like being more powerful than any guy as long as I kept my talent hidden. I like coming as a surprise to people, and that would be a surprise!

  5. There's no way I'd ever want to be more powerful than the guy I'm with. I don't mind being smarter though. ;)

  6. Sounds like a great book. Yah, that'd be to be more powerful than guys, but it wouldn't have to be physical power. It could be in some other way.

    1. Yes, Dez's power isn't all physical. I don't want to give it away though, so you'll have read it to find out.

  7. I love Trish. It's next on my kindle.

Also, I've never considered being stronger than a man. Mentally, yes. but physically, not exactly.

    Tough choice!

    1. I kind of think I'd like being stronger. Like you said, mentally stronger is easier to picture. ;) But I don't think I'd mind being more powerful in general.

  8. Good question, I've never really thought about if before.

To be honest I wouldn't mind! If it's the guy I'm dating, well, just as long as we feel comfortable and that he's not super intimidated by me...hmmm. Hahaha! :D

    1. Karen, good point. I think a lot of guys would be intimidated.

  9. I think there's more of an inherent thrill in "He's bigger/stronger than me, but he chooses to do X for me out of love." Kind of like the Strength tarot card, typically depicted as a maiden with a lion's head in her lap.

Whereas if I could just snap the guy like a twig... I would never know if he did what I asked out of love or fear.

    1. True, you wouldn't know. I didn't think of it that way.

  10. This sounds like a fabulous read! The plot is very interesting.

Beverly brought up a good point. I like to be a strong woman, but I don't know if I would want to be stronger than any man. Actually, the more I think about it-I think that would be great. I would feel very secure and I would take any man who tried to attack me by surprise. Just because I can can kick butt- doesn't mean I have to on a regular basis. :)

    1. Jess, I think I'd like it, too. Let's change the roles and let the women be the stronger ones. Why not?

  15. I've heard SO many good things about her book - even the people who didn't love it (I always read the three-stars) said that the world she created was just incredible.

I'm excited to jump into this one.

    1. Jolene, starred reviews are tricky because to some people 3's are good. To other's they aren't. That's why you have to read the actual review and not just go by the stars, which you do! I agree that Trish created an amazing world in this book.

  16. I didn't read your review for one reason: I'm about to start reading DF. I find if I read reviews it makes the experience not as enjoyable. As in, I have expectations that the book is gonna suck or its super good. All the while I want to make my own judgement. Anyway, once I'm done, I'll let you know what I think. I'm way excited to read it. Just gotta get some time. Ugh! This weekend will be a great time. :)

  17. I think I've read about this book from another blog. Must be really good! (As to your question, I'd hope my man is someone I can worship. Sort of like Lord Aragornesque. So I suppose he'll be the more powerful one!)

  18. Sounds like an intriguing read.. As for the question, I've always felt like the stronger in a relationship. Of course, it's emotionally stronger, but to me that's everything. Could be that I am independent. Not sure, but this is an question that will linger and churn.

    1. Brenda, I'm very independent, too. Maybe that's why I wouldn't mind being stronger either. :)
