Monday Mishmash 2/20/12

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. Crazy week My crazy, busy week has begun. I had a book signing yesterday, and I have another tomorrow. Then it's a school visit on Thursday. Lots of fun!
  2. NetGalley I got my first book from NetGalley this past weekend. Yay, fun! Looking forward to reviewing it on YA Bound.
  3. Time Still trying to find out how to get more time in my days. My lack of sleep caught up to me by Friday of last week. I'm staying up late most nights though.
  4. Daughter's 5th birthday My little one turns five on Sunday. Where is the time going?
  5. Taxes My taxes are done. Yay! I really hate sitting there watching someone do my taxes. Numbers tend to bore me.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

    1. Karen, it was good. Thanks for asking. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow. The kids were great and I brought a poster of TOUCH OF DEATH, which got a great reaction. All good stuff.

They do grow up quickly. I don't know where my little baby went.

    1. LOL. We always get a good chunk of change back because my husband doesn't claim enough dependence at work. Yes, we loan our money to the government every year. Anyway, we don't put it off because we want our money.

  16. Wow you do have a busy week. Good luck with that. I am also really bad about sleep. It seems when we are in the midst of a project, it just doesn't matter as much, but man then the lack of it catches up and we are doomed...

    1. Exactly! I get so wrapped up in my WIP that I can do without the sleep, but the moment I slow down, it hits me hard.

  18. Congratulations on your book deals. Wow. What a kick. I know I'm late to the party. I was just going back through old self-publishing posts and the comments and I found you there.

I'm happy for you. Keep up the good work. Hope life isn't getting too crazy.

  19. Congrats on another signing! I can only imagine how fun that must be!

I have a pretty busy week in store too, but don't have my calendar with me, so i can't remember it all lol.

Yay for your daughters birthday! It does go way too fast doesn't it? My daughter will be 11 soon and my son 4. I have no idea how it all went so fast!

  20. I'm really looking forward to your school visit on Thursday! We haven't seen you in awhile. I can't believe that your little girl is 5 already! Believe it or not mine is going to be 9 next week...

  24. Let me know if you find the trick to adding time to your days. Some days I think I meet myself coming and going. It's fun being so busy, though, isn't it?

  25. You're busy! But it sounds like most of your day is filled with good things! My daughter's birthday is also on Sunday. :)

  26. Time flies by.. Five, that's a big number for a little girl. Independence is big. I know you'll cope, but try and remember to give way to walking away an hour earlier.. without perspective the mind gets mushy. Me, looking around for agents..

    1. Yes, five is a big number for a little girl. :) Good luck with that agent search. Keep me posted. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed for you.

  27. Congrats on your book signings - must be draining, but fun.

Yeah, sleep. I've heard of that. Must get back to reading classics like Les Mis, they put me to sleep within seconds, instead of the page-turners that keep me up for one more chapter.

Enjoy your daughter's 5th birthday. Five turns to fifteenth turns to twenty-five quicker than you can imagine.

    1. Oh, don't say that. Time goes by way too quickly. The book signings were lots of fun. I love reading to kids.

  28. If you find a way to cram more time into a day and still allow for a good 8 hours of shut-eye, please share! I hope your book signings are fantastic and that your daughter's birthday is a blast :-)

  30. What an awesome week with the b-day, taxes out of the way, and book signings.

I used to read from Netgalley, but I found it too overwhelming with all the books I already have.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have to admit it is a little overwhelming. I haven't requested many books from NetGalley because I don't want to have to dig my way out of another pile of books. I already have one huge stack looking at me. :)

  31. So is the book signing and the school visit to promote "Touch of Death"? What are you signing if the book hasn't been released? I'm curious as I've never been to a book signing. More time...I think all writers need more time!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The signing was actually for my picture books. I have three out right now. I did bring a poster of TOUCH OF DEATH though and people asked about it. My school visit Thursday is for teens, so I will be talking about TOUCH OF DEATH and how it came about. I've also gotten permission to read from the book. Yay! I'm so excited about that.

  33. Late to comment as usual but here I am. What a great and exciting week for you and I hope your little one has a brilliant birthday.

For me, this week is about diversifying my creativity. I've joined an am dram group (after 10 years away from it all). Exciting but nervewracking. I'm working on my WiP in a bid to hone the first couple of chapters to enter into a competition. I've been zazzling new designs (especially for the upcoming UK mother's day). And I'm trying to keep to my resolution of reading more - at the moment, I'm racing through A Tale of Two Cities.

    1. I read A Tale of Two Cities to my sister when she was in high school. She wasn't a big reader, so I used to read to her even though she was almost five years older than me. ;) Enjoy!

  34. I hate doing my own taxes- so I prefer to have someone else do them. Math and forms are not my favorite things. Congrats on the book signings- I hope they both went well. What an exciting week!

    1. Oh, I don't do my own taxes. I hate numbers. I'd rather pay to have someone else figure it all out for me. ;)

Thanks. Both signings were a lot of fun. Now, tomorrow is the school visit.

  37. wow, what a busy schedule. Getting taxes done, for me at least, is a wonderful stress release. Happy birthday to your 5 year old. How fun. The only thought on my mind is catch up, catch up, catch up. How is it that we manage to fall behind so easily?
