Monday Mishmash 5/28/12

Happy Monday and happy Memorial Day! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:

  1. End of the school year  My daughter's last day of pre-k is Wednesday. I can't believe it's over. I feel like yesterday was her first day. Her school put together a slideshow of the year, and I totally cried.
  2. Father's Day  I'm so glad I'm finished shopping for Father's Day. I love when I get ahead of my holiday shopping.
  3. Editing  I'm in full editing mode for the next few weeks. I have clients lined up. It worked out perfectly because I just finished my latest WIP.
  4. Sequels  The WIP I just finished drafting was a sequel. For some many reasons, sequels are hard to write, but I do love getting to spend more time with characters I love. This is the second and final book with these characters, so I'll miss them.
  5. Revisions  Somehow I managed to put myself in a situation where I have two manuscripts waiting for me to revise them. How did that happen? I'm starting to think I might write too much. ;) Nah!
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. You are the most prolific writer I know! Oh, no, you'll have less time with no school! Summer is harder for me as a working mom. My guilt is ten times higher than when they are in school. I don't feel so bad being away from them when they are in school.

    1. I still manage to get a lot done over the summer. It gives my daughter and husband their father-daughter time. They'll play outside for about and hour and a half while I work. Then I work again at night after my daughter goes to bed. It's not as much time, but it's still something. Come September, I'll have more writing time than I'll know what to do with. My daughter will be in school full-time.

  2. I love to see how your writing life flows. Writing, editing, and being a Mom - that is a very full plate.

  3. Father's Day hadn't hit my radar yet. You are on top of things!

  4. Sounds like you have a busy workload but you're right on top of it.
    Congrats for finishing that novel.

School year: Hmmmm. There's no childer I've had - or at least, none of which I know. So I can't really speak to the end of the school year.

Father's Day: And for the same reason, there's little I can say to Father's day, for I've been none and had none I've ever known.

Editing: Well and all. I wish I could afford ye, lassie :-). For there's a project I've had in mind to do for long and long, but it will likely have to wait until I'm rich and famous - so I can hardly hold my breath :-).

WIPS: Well, with 'A Comedy of Terrors' coming out this month (and given how close 'this month' is, I hope I get a date soon (blushes)), and 'Road like a River' coming in January, it's back to a seuqel for me to - 'A Not Summer Night's Scream'. I guess it's not hard to see which one that one follows (blushes again).

And as to what's on my mind - well and all. I put the Trailer for 'A Comedy of Terrors' live this week. It's not on my own site yet, for the multimedia module is given me headaches. But it's here if any would care to look, and let me know what they think :-). It sort of qualifies as a Cover Reveal as well, for those that staty to the end :-)):

    1. Or rather - 'A Comedy of Terrors is out in June - and that's the month I meant was close. Lordy. It must be Monday... :-)

    2. You have a lot on your plate too! Congrats on the trailer and cover reveal. That's always exciting. I'll be sure to check it out. :)

    3. Oh, and you're only a few days shy of June. No biggie. :)

  7. Sequels ARE hard to write. I'm joining Camp NaNoWriMo to give myself a kick in the you-know-what to get cracking on mine!

  8. I'm jealous. We have school until the 20th. Yuck.

I did the same thing in November/December when I was prepping two books to be released before Christmas. Plus revising in two different pen names at the same time was very interesting.

  9. I've got half a dozen things to get onto today, and still not sure which to start first. It's one of those days...

  10. It is amazing how fast each year goes by. I can imagine it is very touching to watch the year go by in pictures. It sounds like you will be busy for the next couple weeks! I am busy with all my normal things and I just got my pool ready for summer. I plan to sit out there and relax, too.

  11. Congrats on finishing your work in progress. Wow, father's day gift already, I haven't even thought about it. For me, each week brings more things I need to do. I've started making to-do lists just to keep track of it all and I've never been a big list person.

    1. Thanks, Auden. I've become a big list person. I never used to use them either.

  12. Congrats on the sequel! I wish I had something to edit besides a newsletter, but I'm keeping busy. Keep up the good work!

  14. I like it when my kids are at school because when they are not I have to take them out somewhere after work, and i am usually exhausted. Living in an apartment doesn't give many options for them, and they need to get out

    1. That can be tough. My daughter is kind of a homebody. She likes staying home. But she loves to be outside in the yard.

  15. I'm in editing mode with one of my WIPs, and my eyes are tired.

Happy writing. I hope you had a great weekend.

  18. Our school year doesn't finish until mid July but my daughter going up to high school seems very close now. Haven't even started shopping with my kids for their father's dad gifts. We have a holiday first so I'm focussing on that. Plus it's my son's birthday, then 2 days later my husband's birthday then immediately after it's father's day. Expensive time of year.

This week, I'm preparing for our holiday and doing the last niggly bits of getting my website ready for launch.

I'm also waiting to hear how I did in a writing competition. Should know within the next couple of weeks (unless they only tell the winners and runners up).

    Have a great week.

  21. On my mind (yesterday) was wrapping up the second of three pieces I am working on between the WIP. I've opted try my hand at 'Personal Writing' to submit. School's over and Mom is the new play thing, plans for art camp or anything else equally fun for your girl? You are my shero when it comes to words on the page. Whenever I get lost in time I remind myself you have likely cranked out several thousands of words with a young one at home.. It works for me,

    1. LOL. I'm glad I can help motivate you.

We are trying to plan a vacation and getting a new puppy. I'm booking author events too. I have two in June, one in July, and one in November so far.

  22. Summer IS almost here, which means 4 little rascals at home instead of just one. I am trying to crank out as much as I can before it happens! But like you, next year all 4 of them will be in school at least half the day, and I think I may be lonely :-)

    1. Yeah, I'm not looking forward to missing out all that time with my little girl. I'm sure I'll get a ton of writing and editing done though.

Don't our children grow up quickly?
As usual, nice list, fun to read.

    1. I finished one. Yay! Only one left to go, but it's taking a back seat to a short story I'm working on for an anthology submission.
