Monday Mishmash 8/20/12

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. Temporary blog schedule switch  Tomorrow, I'm participating in Rachel Harris's blog tour for My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, so I'll be blogging Monday, Tuesday, Friday this week.
  2. Kindergarten orientation  My daughter did really well at orientation. I couldn't be more proud, but a week from today is the big dreaded first day of kindergarten. I get teary just thinking about it.
  3. Editing  I'm editing for clients again this week. I love that I get to read and write books for a living. :)
  4. Stalked By Death  I should be getting my first round edits for Stalked by Death, the second book in the Touch of Death trilogy, later this week. Eek!
  5. Announcement coming!  I will have an announcement coming soon. Stay tuned!
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

    1. Thanks, Kiersi! I'm weird in that I look forward to edits. Crazy, right? Plus, I know my editor did a fantastic job with Touch of Death, so I know she'll do a great job with this book too.

    2. Not crazy at all, KH. Editors rock because they help you with the things you knew were wrong but didn't know how to fix yourself.

  3. Very intrigued by this announcement....!Good luck with edits. Tell you, it's MUCH harder being your own Inner Editor, believe me.

    1. I love editing, but I find it so tough to edit my own work. For my clients, it's easy. I guess you really need that distance to see things clearly.

  4. Reading and writing for a living is fantastic! It's part of my job, too. The only thing is I'd rather be doing fiction than technical writing and writing computer code. The worse part of my job is reading other people's code. :D

    1. Computer code would be so over my head. All those numbers. No thank you. Give me fiction any day. :)

      Anyway, thanks!

  6. I am glad your daughter's orientation went well! Can't believe they start school on a Monday. I prefer to start midweek (especailly for the kiddos). Good luck editing and I can't wait to hear about the announcement. :)

    1. Yeah, I was surprised they start on Monday too, but it's a 4-day week because they get Friday and the following Monday off for the holiday, so it's not too bad.

  7. Enjoy this last week and then get ready for massive amounts of writing time. Can you hear my jealousy from over here?

    1. LOL. Well if it makes you feel better, I'll be so worried about how my daughter is doing in school the first week, I may not get much done.

  8. So excited for your daughter, Kelly. Kindergarten is such a milestone. (My daughter starts middle school in a few weeks--yikes!) As long as you drop her off with a big smile and let her see how confident you are that she'll be fine ... she'll be great. For mom it's much harder!

    1. Yes, it is harder on mom. I will put on my best smile until I'm back in my car.

  12. I like that you keep a schedule for blogging. Good way to keep your writing organized and separate from the social networking. I should adopt this. The one thing I don't have is a huge following to worry about. How did you get your name out there to get such a fan base - granted you are published. I am sure that helps :-)

    1. That did help, Michelle, but really it was from joining online writers groups. The writing community is so supportive.

  13. Good luck with editing and with your little girl going off to big kids' school. It'll all be great!

  15. It's Wednesday and I am late to the party. I am on the road again. Taking the daughter back to school tomorrow with a stop over and Grandma's. Not much on my mind these days but the trip across the desert to Santa Fe, letting go (again), the WIP, and finding a home for my voice (the agent who sticks like glue to my words). Glad about the first day of school. She is taking flight.

    1. Brenda, my darling, it's only Tuesday. Don't lose a day. :) I posted twice already this week because I am participating in Rachel's blog tour. Sorry if my early post messed with your head.

      Have a safe trip!

  16. No, my head is buried. It is Tuesday, doh!

  17. I'm juggling three kinds of edits this week, and one of them I had to go back right to the base document. For some reason Chinese lettering kept infesting the document. Hopefully it doesn't happen again...

  18. I entered the-
"11TH FREE 'DEAR LUCKY AGENT' CONTEST (MIDDLE GRADE FICTION)"

I don't normally enter contests because I find them too constricting.

But after my experience at WriteOnCon 2012, I feel I have as a good a chance as anyone, but please wish me luck anyway, Kelly.

  19. Can't wait to hear your announcement! Kindergarten - where parents cry as the child waves to them at the door. She'll have such a fun year, and you'll get more writing time.
