Cover Reveal: Blood Bound by Keshia Swaim

I have a fun cover reveal for you today because it's a vote! That's right. Keshia and Spencer Hill Press want your help deciding her cover.

Starting college a year early is hard. Starting fae college and learning to protect the world from the Unseelie is harder.
Brielle Reed has always been an over-achiever, but this time she may have bitten off more than she can chew. Between her crash course in fae politics, struggles to control her new mind-reading ability, training sessions with the demanding Dr. Schwartz, and discoveries about the father who is still a mystery to her, Brielle finds herself longing for a chance at a normal life.
But she may not get that chance. Or chance at a life at all, for that matter.

  1. Actually I like the cover with the hands better, however I showed it to my 2 daughters, ages 12 and 11, and they preferred the cover with the girl. It was 2 to 1, so I voted for the girl. They are both great; you can't go wrong either way. Good luck.

    1. I like the hand better, too. That's great that you showed it to your daughters.

  2. I prefer the hand because even though portrait covers are trendy, the girl is just standing there, while the hand is active and tells more of a story. Good luck with this, Keshia.

  3. I like the cover with the hand better. Voted.

  4. While the cover with the hand shows action, I prefer the cover with showing the young lady who is presumably Brielle. It instantly connects you with a character and gives teens someone they can relate to. She looks like them, dresses like them and she too has her own baggage she is trying to deal with.

  5. Voted for the hand.

It looks more interesting, active, and I want to know more (that's what makes me pick up a book). I agree with Catherine, the girl is just standing there.

  6. While personally I like the hand cover better, I think the girl one would attract more readers. It gives a better feel that the book is YA, etc. There's someone for people to relate to.

  7. I went with the hand too. It seems more mysterious.

  8. I have a strong preference for *not* showing a face and fixing the MC's image onto the readers. I also find the hand image more intriguing. Whose hand is it? What is it reaching for?

    1. Yes, the hand does raise questions, and that's a good thing.

  9. The hand is different. There are a lot of mysterious girl covers, so that hand is unique. :)

  10. I went with the girl. First impression is it caught my eye. If i think about it, I think it is because it does connect you with the character before you even read the book. A hand is a hand, not much going on there. Besides it doesn't make me think Fae. I love fae and I know they have powers, but that cover almost made me think of a wizard.

  11. I agree about not showing the protagonist on the cover. Too many covers just like it. Either way, looks good!

    1. I don't mind seeing the protagonist on the cover. Um, all my covers have the protagonist on them in some way. ;)

  12. Wow. This is tough. I'd hate to be in Keshia or SHP's shoes. No, Wait. I WOULD want to be in their shoes!

    Now, back to important things...

My first choice is the hand, because it makes me curious as to what that hand is doing, what will it do, who's is it, and what is so symbolic (would a reaching hand make sense after reading this story) about it? I also steer from covers with the face of the MC (I always assume it's the MC). But that's MY choice - as an adult.

For YA reader's, they may be drawn to seeing the MC. And in this case, the expression on her face says a lot. I'd want to know what is troubling her.

For those that have already read the story: If the story is all about Brielle, and not the symbolism of the hand, then go with the girl.

In case I lost you, I voted for the hand.

    1. LOL. I voted for the hand too, but I can see how teenagers would prefer seeing the MC.

  13. I choice the hand, the girl looks mean. I think there is a typo on free blog polls tag line. Should it say just got easier? LO

    1. I didn't notice the typo but since I already voted I don't want to do it again to check.

  14. I like the girl better. The "electricity" coming of the hand makes the book feel younger to me, more MG.

  15. While there's something that immediately draws me to the hand, I ultimately voted for the girl because I think as a reader it creates an immediate connection to the MC. But both were amazing!

    1. I can see the appeal of both, which probably why they are doing this vote. LOL

  17. I voted for the girl. I thought it was more eye-catching.

It was fun voting for a cover. Sometimes I see alternate covers and believe the publisher should have let people vote.

  18. I voted for the girl, because I think it looks more suitable for this age-range. The other might look more for middle-graders.

  19. Both covers look good and it was so fun to vote. I always like to take polls. :) Sounds like an interesting book.

  20. The book sounds great! I voted for the girl-cover. I think it's easier to identify with than the hand. But both are lovely and would work. :-)

  21. I'd demand a better range of options if I was the author. Both covers look like '80s VHS covers.

  22. I voted for the girl as well, but it wasn't easy to choose! They're both great.

  23. i voted for the hand, seems a bit more mysterious, makes me wanna know more about the story.
