Monday Mishmash 8/5/13

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. Edits  Yup, I'm still editing my 2014 titles. LOL I love that I have multiple books coming out next year, but man, that adds up to a lot of edits. Good thing I love to edit.
  2. Reading  I finally finished a book I've been reading for a while. I've had limited reading time lately, and as much as I enjoyed the book, I had trouble finding time to read it.
  3. Research  I consider watching teen TV shows research for my target audience. Right now I'm loving Pretty Little Liars and Twisted, both of which are on Tuesday nights.
  4. Free Monthly Newsletter  My monthly newsletter goes out at 5pm EST today. If you aren't signed up but would like to receive one, you can sign up here.
  5. The Monster Within Cover Reveal! My April 7, 2014 title with Spencer Hill Press has a gorgeous cover designed by Lisa Amowitz. I love it!

The moment seventeen-year-old Samantha Thompson crawls out of her grave, her second chance at life begins. She died of cancer with her long-time boyfriend, Ethan, by her side—a completely unfair shot at life.
But Ethan found a way to bring her back, like he promised he would. Only Sam came back wrong.
She's now a monster that drains others' lives to survive. And after she kills, she’s tortured by visions—glimpses into her victims would-have-been futures had she not killed them. Barely able to live with herself and trying to make things right, Sam ends up a pawn in a vicious game of payback within the local coven of witches.
But when the game reveals what Ethan had to do to save Sam, she must make a choice that will change all their lives forever.

  1. My grandmother's birthday was yesterday, and treated her to French Toast.

I was originally planning to make her a coconut cake (Homemade, no mix) but our oven died on us two months ago. We can only use the stovetop to cook, and I fear it will be months before we can afford to replace it.

I MISS baking like you wouldn't believe!

    Otherwise, things have been okay.

I made some headway on my two WIP books, I'm hoping to have them drafted before September.

I can relate to the reading getting tough during other writer-centric tasks. But I will get on top of that this week.

I watch various shows and movies to research, too, but it took me a long time to believe that, if you're used to associating research as solely a scholar-like affair, but unlike nonfiction, this research doesn't feel onerus in the same ways, and I LOVE that.

  2. Your new novel sounds intriguing. Gorgeous cover too. Adding it to my TBR list (wish I had time to read them all). Congratulations on another book.

My mind says get busy and revise the story my publisher said to revise. After I play on the Internet for a while. :)

  3. I love your new cover! Congrats on how many books you have coming out next year. It's so exciting! I'm just barely starting on the first draft of a WIP. I doubt it will be revised by the time your 2014 books come out. :P

  4. Reminds me of this game I used to play. The necromancers would drain so much of your energy, you couldn't even run to get away. You wound up in a temple and would have to pray to come back to life. If you didn't pray, your spirit would remain a ghost in the temple. Weird as heck, and a little creepy. :)

    1. LOL. Yeah, the deal was announced over a year ago, but the cover is just being revealed, so it's not that fast. Does seem it though. :)

  15. Oooh! That story sounds terrifying. It reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the movie Pet Sematary: "Sometimes, dead is better."

    Good luck with the edits!

  17. Sounds like you've had a busy summer. I binge read. Lots all at once and then a page here and there. Looks like a great story, but I am sooooo backed up! One day soon I will win the lottery and have all the time in the world. :-)
