Monday Mishmash 9/23/13

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:

  1. Picture Day  My daughter has school pictures on Tuesday. I'll be helping out with them, which is always fun because the kids all look so cute.
  2. Final Edits  I'm working on final edits for Face of Death, which is so sad because I don't want to say goodbye to Jodi and Alex. :(
  3. Allergies  Anyone else suffering from awful allergies? My eyes won't stop watering and I have a headache just about every other day.
  4. Text to Speech  I love the text-to-speech feature on my Kindle, but it's been acting up lately—flipping through pages or just shutting off. Might be time to call Kindle and see if I have a faulty device. It's only a few months old.
  5. Editing Clients  Lately, quite a few of my editing clients are getting agents and/or book deals. It makes me so happy to hear their good news and celebrate with them. I have really amazing clients. :)
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. Ugh! Allergies! My poor boyfriend suffers from them tremendously so I understand your pain. Hopefully it will pass soon!
I love Mondays because they are a fresh start to the week but as much as I plan to get things going, I'm usually still catching up mid-week. Will be visiting a couple of local independent book stores today. I had an event over the weekend which reminded me about the warmth and pleasant conversations you find in such places. And it's always good for us writers to become better acquainted with the store owners when it comes time for our book releases=) You seem to have a busy start as always so good luck, Kelly!

  2. Love school picture day - though I remember being ambushed a few times, forgetting that we were supposed to wear anything BUT white on those days.

Recently finished edits on one of my books and had the same problem, not wanting to say goodbye to those characters. Maybe one more pass...

  4. I hope your allergies clear up soon--that stinks! And I totally hear you on the last book and hating to say goodbye. I've been known to go back and visit characters I can't leave alone :)

  5. Yeah, those allergies. Mine are horrible. It is difficult to say goodbye to the characters you've lived with for so long. They'll still be there though, in your memories. :) I well remember the school pictures, the girls with their combs and brushes, the boys little caring what they looked like. Lots of fun.
    Have a great week.

  7. Have fun w/picture day! I always dreaded it as a kid(I was pretty shy back then). But they're so much fun to look back at, to see ourselves in all our crazy haired, gap toothed glory, lol!

    1. My daughter has three loose teeth. We were so worried this would be the picture with all the missing teeth, but they are holding on. lol

  8. Yes, allergies have been really rough for the past month or so here in Chicagoland. My right eye is perpetually tearing, which as a hormones-are-out-of-control, pre-menopausal women is making me look completely unstable. Drat! Hope yours get better soon!

  10. Picture day at school... It must be because my oldest just turned 20, but I despise PD. Actually, all sports photos too. It seems like we have to take professional photos for everything now. I honestly have no place to put them anymore. LOL

    1. I know. My daughter's school does picture day in the fall, class picture day later, and then in the spring they do individual pictures again. Three a year! Crazy!

  11. I think it's pretty awesome how your time and expertise in working with other authors is leading to their success. How cool is that?

Keep a box of tissues handy while you're editing. It's always sad to have to say goodbye to characters that you've grown to love, isn't it?

P.S. Have fun at picture day. I remember always going to get them taken after lunch/recess and everyone being a windblown mess. Thank goodness they have moms like you on hand to make sure everyone looks their best :-)

    1. It's so much fun to watch my clients succeed. I love it.

Oh, I just sent my edits in and I cried like a baby. I need to buy more tissues.

I had to run in gym my freshman year before pictures. LOL

  12. I'm on the allergy train too. Actually, I've been on immunotherapy shots for a year now, trying to get to a manageable point without treatment. It's a long journey.

That's super awesome--about your clients. There's nothing that really matches with that high, is there?

  13. I'm just the opposite of text to speech. I love speech to text because I can get e-mails, texts and other things done so much faster!

    1. Speech to text never works well for me. It always write something different. Close...but different.

  16. My allergies aren't acting up yet, but a lot of my students' allergies are. Another week, and we'll be going through a box of tissues a day!

Congrats on your clients getting signed. That has to be exciting for all of you.

  19. Your Monday Mishmash is my tuesday mishmash by the time I get it!! Agree about not wanting to say goodbye to characters..they do creep under our defences! And I have been advised to cut right back on caffeine..not an allergy but a health issue aggravated by it. So..one cup a day. I have splitting headache already....Sigh. Poor us!!!
