Monday Mishmash 5/12/14

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. Back to the eye doctor  I picked up my new glasses on Friday and when I brought them home, I found out one of the lenses is not the correct prescription. *sigh* So I'm going back again today.
  2. The Monster Within Monster Giveaway  The big giveaway I'm planning for The Monster Within begins this Friday. Want to join me? Sign up here. And here's a teaser for you:
  3. Mother's Day  I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. I had a great day with my family.
  4. Editing  I'm playing catch-up this week with client edits since my eye drama last week made it very painful to sit in front of the computer screen for very long.
  5. Curse of the Granville Fortune  I had a cover reveal on Friday for my debut middle grade novel, Curse of the Granville Fortune, which releases October 22, 2014 through Tantrum Books. Check it out!

Find the fortune, break the curse!

The hunt is on for an ancient treasure tied to nine-year-old J.B.'s family history. He's been having visions that make him sweaty, lightheaded, and certain he’s turning into some kind of freak—or worse, going insane. But things are worse than he imagined. The visions stem from a family curse. An ancient ancestor was accused of stealing the massive Granville fortune, and now J.B.’s entire family will suffer.

To break the curse, J.B. must find and return the Granville’s stolen property. But he's not the only one searching for the treasure. As he sets out on his journey through a dark and foreboding forest, he'll battle his worst fears and fight terrifying creatures along the way. And when he meets two others who share the missing pieces of his visions and suffer from the same curse, the three soon realize they need to work together to break the curse before it's too late.

That's it's for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. Hope you get your glasses sorted soon. Are your contacts ok?

I'm still redrafting chapter 3 of my novel. It was a new chapter this time round so it's proving more tricky than the chapters on either side of it that were from the original draft. Getting there though.

    1. Thanks, Katie.

I just got home from the eye doctor to find the lenses are the same. The problem is my old glasses had different prescriptions. How crazy is that? lol And my new glasses are not as strong as my old ones. I'm taking comfort in the fact that my eyes may be improving. That might mean I'm getting old though. ;)

  5. I actually took Mother's Day 'off' to spend with the family. We hiked, I planted a couple climbing roses on a new trellis my husband and son put up for me. Why is it we are still working even when we take the day off ;)

Hope you get the right glasses this time!

  7. Happy belated Mother's Day, Kelly! I hope you enjoyed the beautiful day with your daughter.

And groan about your glasses ... you were probably scratching your head like what is going on when you put them on. Craziness!

    P.S. Love the cover!

  8. It sounds like a busy week again, Kelly. We spent yesterday hunting through the pantry for the "box top" coupons, and then we hit the emergency food supply. It was a lot like an Easter egg hunt. The grandkids needed them for a school contest today. It was a lot of fun especially the giggling. (We found 126)

    Back to revising this week.

  10. Hi Kelly,
I haven't been able to visit here because I've been buried in work. Great new site! But now, school is out and although I have my academic research to do, I can concentrate on my creative projects. I have been writing today for hours and it feels great. Love to see all the work that is being generated here!

    1. Thanks, Meradeth. We're giving my eyes a few days to adjust and taking it from there. I see aspirin in my future because I get headaches easily from eye issues.

  12. I'm looking forward to The Monster Within, Kelly. I had an ultrasound done this morning and then another doctor visit coming up on Thursday. Seems like my last two weeks have been filled with hospital and doctor care! I'm also writing before work for the next several weeks now that I've managed to get the weight back down. No more muffins until Fall=) Have a beautiful start to your week!

  15. I've got to get to the eye doc soon, I keep meaning to make an appointment. My glasses that I bum around the house in are being held together w/tape, lol! This time, I'm going to get something funky instead of playing it safe and boring. =) And I saw Granville around quite a bit over the weekend, yay!

    1. I may have to go back to the eye doctor again on Thursday. It seems I have strange eye issues. lol

  19. I hope your eye issues (?) will not only resolve, but let them not be strange... I wore the wrong prescription (sub-rated optometrist, I guess) for two years. No wonder I saw better without than with.

  20. That looks like a fun book. Good luck with your new glasses.

  21. I love your cover.

I once received the wrong prescription for contact lenses. It made almost everything impossible.

Ugh, that is probably worse than the wrong prescription for glasses. I have another appointment for tomorrow. *sigh* Hopefully this gets straightened out.
