Monday Mishmash 7/7/14

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:
  1. Leap Books Shine Editor  I joined the team over at Leap Books to be a final proofreader for their Shine YA imprint. I'm excited to work with this publisher and their authors.
  2. Construction is still going on  I had to leave my house on Wednesday when there were waterfalls in my house. I'm talking rushing water down the walls. I went to my parents' house with my daughter, and my husband fought stayed home to save the house. Construction continues and I'll be going back to my parents' house later this week. I just want this to be finished already.
  3. Revisions  I'm revising the second book in the Curse of the Granville Fortune series this week. A lot of changes were made to book one so I have to fix book two to reflect those changes.
  4. Client edits  I have more client edits to do this week, which is always good.
  5. Two upcoming picture books  I just signed artist agreements for two of my upcoming picture books with Guardian Angel Publishing. I'm so excited to see my stories illustrated, and I couldn't be happier with both illustrators the publisher paired with my books.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

    1. Thanks! One is called Fish Detectives. It's about fish who solve cases in the fish tank. The other is about a dog in a dog competition.

  2. Fingers crossed your house is finished soon. Congratulations on the new deals.

I'm increasingly aware that the deadline for finishing my novel is looming. My writing schedule is a tad impinged upon at the moment because my husband is off work ill. Still, there's no one else can write Haven Falling so I'm doing my best to write at least 1,000 words each day (not much by your standards, I know). Wish me luck.

    Have a great week.

    1. 1,000 a day is great. You're almost at NaNo pace, which I'm sure everyone will agree is good. :)

  3. I would freak out at water flowing into the house! I hope it's all over for you soon. Construction is still ongoing at my house as well, but at least I have a roof! Best to you Kelly. Before and after photos will remind you it was all worth it though.

  4. Awe, good luck with the picture books and everything else, Kelly! It makes it so much easier when we are happy with our illustrators. Provides some relief in how we imagine our stories to unfold upon the pages=) Happy Monday!

  5. Congrats on getting hired! I hope your house becomes livable again soon.

Right now, I'm wondering if I should be trying to write some more when I'm sleepy.

    1. I can write when I'm tired but I can't edit when I'm tired. Good luck!

  6. Water rushing down the walls is a very bad thing.

  7. Being in the heat of construction is never fun but the end result is usually very exciting.

    1. Yes, I already like going upstairs to see the framing. It will be really nice when it's finished.

  8. Haven't yet heard of Shine or Leap. Sounds good! As for me, I'm at a writers' retreat at the Cape all week. *Paradise!*

And I've heard nothing but good things about Guardian Angel Publishing so I think you'll be in good hands there.

  14. You always have so much going on. I constantly wonder how you do it. Good luck with everything. Oh, and I signed up for your Into the Fire blog tour. I hope to get picked to help, because I would love to have you and your book on my blog. :)

    1. Thank you, Chrys! If you don't get picked, let me know. I'd love to be on your blog and we can set something up ourselves if need be. :)

  15. It better, much better, that you have so many pots on the stove while construction is going on, and sometimes in unexpected ways. When I look back at some stressful times I count my blessing for having had many responsibilities to keep me from focusing on the unruliness of life.
Very exciting that you have two PBs in those pots, too. Your daughter should share in your joy as the illustrations trickle in.

  18. Congrats on the new position but BOO to the waterfalls in your house! We went through a flood in 2010 and it was no bueno, I can tell you! It sounds like your situation was contained quickly enough that it won't be a major issue.

    1. Yes, the builder is going to fix the damage, which is good. It will take longer to finish the project now though.

    1. Yes! It's looking like we might be finished with the construction by the end of next week. Then I just have to finish the inside, which will take time.
