Monday Mishmash 9/29/14

Happy Monday! Monday Mishmash is a weekly meme dedicated to sharing what's on your mind. Feel free to grab the button and post your own Mishmash.

Here's what's on my mind today:
  1. Into the Fire Hit 3 Amazon Best Seller Lists!  So, I'm still smiling over this one. Just look! And thank you a million times over to everyone who bought a copy of the book. This means so much to me.
  2. Just Kelly-New YouTube Video Series  I've decided that in addition to my usual videos with book teasers and such, I'm going to do a series called "Just Kelly" where I'll share things about myself. Here's video number one, which happens to be my useless talents. Enjoy!
  3. I joined Instagram  Okay, so I didn't realize that this is the place for YA readers to hang out, but that was recently shared with me. So I thought I'd give it a try. You can find me here.
  4. Linking Accounts  For a while I've been tossing around the idea of linking my social media accounts so when I post to one, it posts to multiple accounts for me. Well, it was a great idea until I forgot which account posted to which other account and wound up with multiple posts in the same place. *sigh* I think I've gotten it straightened out with the help of a cheat sheet. ;)
  5. The Darkness Within Cover  Guys, I got to see the finalized cover for The Darkness Within (the sequel to The Monster Within) and I'm so in love with it. I can't wait until this cover reveal!
That's it for me. What's on your mind today.

  1. Congratulations on the best seller list result. Cute video (apart from the nails - scary - there must be a character you can create out of that).

While my first novel is put away for a while, I'm planning the next one. I have the main premise but I need to expand on the why's and decide which characters feature in this novel and which in the third novel (or will they be in both?). One of the main characters throughout the trilogy is based on my daughter (or parts of her) and I'm creating a character to feature in the second novel based on my son. He has lots of ideas about this character, some of which will work.

    Have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Fi!

How fun that your son and daughter will have some feedback in how you create those characters. :)

  2. Congrats! With a ranking like that, you are selling a lot of books right now.

  3. Congratulations, Kelly! That's awesome news about Into the Fire!
I have my week cut out for me. We rescued a small cat this weekend and she is living with us now. Originally, we were going to give her to my neighbor but I fell in love with her. Will be blogging about her as soon as I get the time... Happy Monday!!

  4. Congratulations on the best seller list!
My teen grandkids have been telling me about Instagram, so I am thrilled that I can now tell them where to find you. And, love the video, especially the class quieting ability you have. I think I'll grow mine and try it. Have a great week, Kelly.

  5. Congrats on your best-seller!

I've been thinking about joining instagram for that reason, to reach YA audience, but I'm already on a bunch of social networks.

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I'm on a lot of them too. It's tough being everywhere at once. That's why I linked my accounts.

  7. Can't wait to see your next cover. I'm redoing my Fireseed One and Ruby's Fire covers with contemp photos and I just saw the first one. It's going to be good! It's the launch of Private Internship, which is exciting, except that Amazon says it's releasing tomorrow. Ack!

  8. Haha. This is the funniest blog I've read today. Wish I'd had sharp nails when I was teaching 5th grade.
Congratulations on all your books and their success. Take a minute now and then to breathe.

  9. The nail thing would have come in handy for me when I was substituting (on a regular basis) for the eighth grade "group". They said I had talent, so they did. They said I was a natural, so they did. They TOTALLY USED MY ASS, because I was that naive to agree to take on every single substitution stint for all those teachers needing vacation and mental health time off from their students. :D

Yeah, I needed that. Why? Eighth grade. Need I say more?

    1. Diane, I loved my eighth graders. I worked in a 7-12 building though so they were terrified of the high schoolers. I'm sure that made a difference.

    2. Yeah, different environment. :)

  10. I'm in awe of your alphabet talent- that's nuts! Also, how many times have you accidentally stabbed your husband? Lol! ;)

    1. I stab myself all the time. It's like, "Oh, I'm bleeding again." ;) The alphabet thing is so weird, isn't it? Why can I do that?

I'm enjoying it, but I really want to know why they keep cropping my photos.

  14. Yeah, I'm one of few MG writers who are active on instagram, but I've had a couple of readers follow me there. One even let me know she liked my book in a comment on one of my photos. That in itself makes it worth it!

  15. Congratulations on making the top bestseller lists! And that fingernail thing would be an interesting habit to give to a mean teacher to scare and intimidate her in students in a YA book. ;)

    1. lol I always worry I'd write something like that (that true to my life) and people would think it was unrealistic.

  16. Never had a doubt your stories are best-selling material, Kelly. This is, as we used to say, HEADY, isn't it? Happy, happy, Monday and a fly-high week!
