Summer is always tough for me. My daughter is home, which means being Mom takes up most of my days. My new job as an acquisitions editor added more work to my already full plate. On top of that, I'm booked solid with my own editing clients for the rest of 2015. So yeah, I haven't been writing as much. But things are going to change soon.
School begins on Monday, and that means I'll be working full days again. My plan is to devote mornings to me and afternoons to Seek. Splitting my day up will allow me time to edit for my clients and write for me, while still handling my duties for Leap Books. Or at least that's the plan. ;)
I'm going to miss my daughter though. She's my buddy. There's nothing I love more than being with her, but I know she is excited to start a new school year (Third grade already? How did she get so big?) and see all of her friends again. So here's to a great start to the school year and life getting back to a routine.
I bet you will miss her. They grow up so fast. I homeschool, so I don't have to miss the kiddies. But I do get what a plate full is. I'm glad you'll have more time for your own stuff. Oh, and btw, Happy Blitz Day! Enjoy. :-)
ReplyDeleteI give homeschooling parents who also have jobs SO much credit. I don't know how you do it all.
DeleteHave a great time editing, writing, and parenting.
ReplyDeleteAnd have a Blitzriffic day.
Thank you! What a surprise that I'm being blitzed. :)
DeleteI have always homeschooled my girls who are now 15 and 17, so I can relate to "going to miss them". In February (I am in the Southern Hemisphere so that is the beginning of the school year) one goes to Uni while the other is going on an international student exchange for a year. Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Happy blitz day.
ReplyDeleteWhat great experiences for them. I'm sure they'll miss you too though.
DeleteYou have a full schedule, all the best. Hope you ace it all. Happy Blitz Day
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteSounds like you have it all planned out. My kids go back to school (my son starts high school) on Wednesday, so it'll be a welcome return to a peaceful morning of writing from then.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter does give me time to work. She's very good like that, but having the day to work definitely allows me to accomplish more.
DeleteThe kids sure do grow up fast! I hope your planned schedule works out, sometimes a few extra hours in the day would be useful!
ReplyDeleteHappy blitz day :)
Extra hours would be really nice! :)
DeleteA routine will be good.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz day!
Thanks, Alex!
DeleteYour cup definitely runneth over! :) Balance is key, but I bet you already know that.
ReplyDeleteAnd YES...you're being BLITZED today! Enjoy. :)
Thanks so much for blitzing me today. :)
DeleteWhen you have too much on your to-do list, celebrate! Happy Blitz Day!!!
ReplyDeletelol Thanks.
DeleteBeing so busy certainly has its pluses and minuses. Exploit those pluses! Best wishes to you on all those endeavors.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jeff.
DeleteIt's nice you can get back into a routine. I'm a fan of routines. =) Hope your daughter has a great school year this year!
ReplyDeleteI'm big on schedules so routines are my thing. :)
DeleteI envy you, planning a schedule (and I'll bet you'll keep to it, too). Even after a year of working full time, I have trouble keeping to a schedule for writing and housework and exercise. Especially since I HATE exercise and resent every second that it keeps me off the computer.
ReplyDeleteI guess, looking forward into September, I could try once more to mold myself into, if not a schedule, at least a pattern!
I read while running on the treadmill so it tricks me into exercising since I look forward to reading time. :)
DeleteI think a lot of people slow down in the summer. Hope your new schedule works out for you. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalie!
DeleteHow sweet. It's that time of year where many are in back to school mode. For me, it's a little different. I'm a T.A. but I don't any kids. My summers are always super busy doing all the things I can't do during the school year, but then when school starts, I become busy in a different way. My writing productivity goes down when school starts, but that's okay. It's always good to see the kids again.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
Summer is busy for me too because I have so much I'm trying to fit into my schedule.
DeleteSounds like you had a good but busy summer. Always hard when the kids go back to school, especially if you enjoyed the time together. They do grow up so quickly so do enjoy these days, as I know you do! May your daughter have a great 3rd grade and you have success in what you want to accomplish once the school year begins again! Happy Blitz!
ReplyDeletebetty
Thank you so much, Betty.
DeleteHere's to a smooth and productive routine!
ReplyDeleteHave a fun Blitz Day!! :)
Thanks, Stacy. Being blitzed is so much fun. :)
DeleteI raised my prices for my freelance writing business because I thought some of them would go away. Only one did--the rest agreed to the HUGE price hike and are sending me regular work. So now...UGH! But I'm on a freelancers' forum and I have to say, it seems pretty rare to be able to land regular work from a full stable of clients...so we're very lucky!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are lucky. I'm not complaining. :)
DeleteThe transition for back to school isn't so smooth all the time, for sure. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miranda!
DeleteSummer I think is just a difficult time all around, because you want to do summery things. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteYes! Exactly.
DeleteHi Kelly - happy blitzing away with your daughter for the next few days ... then a degree of normality returns. Sounds like you are busy - but that's great .. life is for being fully occupied and enjoying things - good luck with the writing, editing, clients and your family! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hilary!
DeleteYou still got way more done than I did this summer. Your a super writing/editing woman! ;)
ReplyDeleteP.S. HAPPY BLITZ DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteAw, thanks, Chrys!
DeleteThe rumor is you're being blitzed today!
ReplyDeleteI am. So much fun. :)
DeleteTime passes before you know it!
ReplyDeleteIt does.
DeleteSounds like you had a really good summer, but I'm sure it'll be nice to get back into a routine. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteIt will. :)
DeleteGood luck on juggling all those jobs. I really hope you get some writing in :-D Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa.
DeleteGood luck this year. My son started full-time kindergarten this year. He's loving it and I'm loving my days to write. It's a little lonely without my little guy, though!
ReplyDeletePlus, Happy Blitz Day! :)
DeleteI know exactly what you mean.
DeleteSchool began this past Monday for us, and it feels so good to have the house to myself again! I don't miss them (I have three) . . . yet . . . But they do grow up fast, so it's important to savor time with them. Happy Blitz!
ReplyDeleteYes, you have to savor those years before they're gone.
DeleteHappy Blitz Day! Long time no see! =)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kelley!
DeleteIt is hard when the kids go back to school. I'm homeschooling the grandkids again this year and looking forward to a routine. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Sherry!
DeleteDouble duty between writing and clients. I know the feeling.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day.
Busy, busy. ;)
DeleteHappy Blitz Day, Kelly! I hope things calm down for you soon and you get more time to spend writing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie. I hope so too.
DeleteHappy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteSummer can be pretty great but getting back to the regular schedule of fall is also somewhat of a relief. I get a good sense of what you're feeling.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!

Yes, I love my schedules, too.
DeleteTime sure does fly, and kids grow fast. Best of luck getting settled into your new schedule. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteCongratulations on the new job, and happy blitz day! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Emma.
DeleteI'm sure a blitz will help you get back into the swing!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! :)
DeleteI know. Work life is more productive when the kiddos head back to school, but it's easy to miss them, too. It's strange for me, now having two in college (a freshman & a senior). Obviously, they're not around too much. My junior in high school and sixth grader will still keep me busy, but at least I can write while they're at school. :) Happy Blitz Day!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the extra work time but I miss my daughter like crazy.
DeleteSummer is rough I've been facing the same thing. Hopefully I'll get more done now that school's started.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do, Tiana.
DeleteGood luck, Kelly! Oh, and Happy Blitz!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stephen.
DeleteHi, I know how you feel. My daughter went back to school last Wednesday too. I am trying to spend more time writing, but so far, I am playing catch up. Happy Blitz Day.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get caught up soon. Good luck.
DeleteHooray for getting back in a routine! Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nick.
DeleteKelly, I can so relate. I really miss my kids during back-to-school time, and it saddens me when I can't squeeze in as much time to write as I'd like. I wish you luck with your busy schedule.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
Thanks, Theresa. I love having other writers who understand my struggles. Even though writing can seem like a lone act, we are a great community.
DeleteMy oldest son goes back tomorrow and my youngest went back on Monday. So next week to get back on schedule for me.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BLITZ DAY!!
Here's to getting back on our schedules. :)
DeleteSo fun to find a fellow speculative fiction author! Your books sound fantastic, and isn't that kind of discovery what the Blitz Days are all about? Best of luck with the writing!
ReplyDeleteYes! I love meeting others who wrote the same genres I do.
Delete*write*
DeleteSummer is hard. I always try to time it so I'm between projects in the summer. Doesn't always work, but that's the plan.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good plan.
DeleteIt is so hard to have a writing schedule in the summer! Good luck getting right to the new schedule for this school year! Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathryn.
DeleteHappy Blog Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll find your rhythm as the days go by...
Thanks, Michelle. I hope so.
DeleteHappy Blitz Day :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chippy.
DeleteHappy Blitz day, Agency sister! I feel the opposite about school starting. That's when I go back to work and lose my writing time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your free time!
Thanks, Michelle. Ah, good luck with adjusting to your schedule change.
DeleteGlad you're able to get back to a schedule that allows you to write again.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
Thanks, Kimberly.
Deleteit's hard getting overwhelmed, but you'll manage it, always make sure to get some writing in :) happy blitz!!!!!! was so happy when I saw your name in the email :)
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. It's funny because yesterday I was thinking it had been awhile since we blitzed anyone.
DeleteWow, you're so busy. Sounds like you're going to get it all managed. So hard missing the kids though.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Blitz Day!
I like being busy, so it's okay. Thanks, Connie!
DeleteKelly, good luck with the new routine. It sounds promising. And Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteSylvie Grayson
Thanks, Sylvie!
DeleteRoutines are a good thing! I'm going to force myself into one ... next week.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Nicki.
DeleteKids going back to school is a much needed break :). Happy blitz day!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy!
DeleteI can't tell you how happy I am that summer is over! School started for my son on Monday, and the silence was quite welcome. I'm looking forward to a productive September. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the same. :)
DeleteGee, you're such a little bitty thing to have TWO names... :)
ReplyDeleteSo how are you feeling? A little woozy, maybe? You should be, because you are getting royally BLITZED today! Enjoy.
Lol Yes, I'm a little dizzy but enjoying myself immensely. :)
DeleteHi, Kelly! I hope your daughter has fun in third grade. Good luck with your new schedule and I hope it's most productive for you! Happy BLITZ Day!! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
Thank you, Laura!
DeleteI've got a third grader this year, too. We also just went back to school, but since my day job is teaching, this does not open more time for writing for me. I'll find my balance again, though, as I'm sure you will, too. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding your balance. :)
DeleteHappy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteThe summer flew by for me. It was just a busy day practically every day.
My son started at a new preschool last week, and my daughter started first grade. So I know what you mean about missing your children during the day.
Summer always seems to be that way. I can't believe it's over already.
DeleteFunny how I used to feel every year when school started that I "got my life back." Now, facing a real empty nest for the first time, I wonder how to get my life back...
ReplyDeleteBut sensing your productive impulses, you will flourish come Monday and beyond.
My daughter is my life so I can't say I feel that way, but I know I'll get a lot more work done.
DeleteMy dang thumb hit the mouse pad on my laptop and byebye went my first comment. Enjoy every minute of your daughter's third grade. My oldest boy was in 3rd grade just recently. Then I blinked. Now he's nearly 19 (that's n.i.n.e.t.e.e.n)!
ReplyDeleteSo we're here celebrating YOU today and to make sure you get BLITZED! :O) Have a great day, Kelly!
I do that all the time. Stupid small buttons.
DeleteI tried to make a deal with my daughter that she stay little and I stay young. I won't tell you how that's going. ;)
That sounds like you have a busy time coming up! Fun that you are an editor and a writer :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
Thanks, AJ.
DeleteEnjoy every moment as a mom, writer, and editor! Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteSummer slows me to halt too. I like the idea of splitting the day. I'll have to try that. Only, I'm not an acquisitions editor. I could split between writing and marketing. Ugh. Marketing.
ReplyDeleteFor a while I was doing one marketing action a day. That worked well and didn't take too long.
DeleteI can't write during the summer, editing clients, horseback riding, just outdoors! Enjoy getting back into it as much as you can while your daughter is at school! Happy Blitz day.
ReplyDeleteMarlene
Thank you!
DeleteHave a great year. Sound busy, but that's goodl.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. :)
DeleteBusy busy! But also wonderful sounding!!! Happy blitz day!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI spent the summer with my nieces, they start back tomorrow, and I'll pick my pen back up :) Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteI feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteI love my son, but its time to go back to school!!!
BAZINGA!
You've been blitzed!
Have a good one!
Heather
Thanks, Heather!
DeleteSounds like you have your hands full and enjoy every minute of it too! You're very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks.
DeleteGood idea to split your days. All the best with getting everything done!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Misha.
DeleteOh how we cherish the moments...Your head-on approach to obligations; both business and writing, is impressive! Mind if I copy? Best wishes :-)
ReplyDeleteFeel free. :)
DeleteHello Kelly. consider yourself Blitzed! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHello Kelly. consider yourself Blitzed! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI need to follow your example. My schedule's about to be packed. Good luck with your schedule!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteHappy Blitz, Kelly. I know how you feel. I just returned from dropping my daughter off at Boston University for her senior year of college. I'll really, really miss my buddy but I will also get more writing done.
ReplyDeleteAw. Well, enjoy your writing time.
DeleteKelly, I totally understand the busyness of different seasons! I've been in a busy "season" for a while--working a full-time job for over a year, plus working on my master's, has meant I've had very, very little time for writing. I'm going on maternity leave soon and then will be a mostly-stay-at-home mom and you know, even with an infant, I think I'll have more time for writing and blogging than I do now! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!! :)
Well if it makes you feel better I actually went back to school (online) when my daughter was an infant. It was a little crazy but I did it. I'm sure you'll make your schedule work too. Good luck.
DeleteI can't believe your daughter is going to be in 3rd grade. I remember when she was just starting school. I have not had as much time for writing lately, but things should settle down soon- so I can relate! Happy writing. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
I know, right? It's crazy how quickly time goes by.
DeleteI hope you get some writing time soon!
You'll slip right back into that routine :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so. :)
