Monday Mishmash 11/16/15

Happy Monday! Monday Mishmash is a weekly meme dedicated to sharing what's on your mind. Feel free to grab the button and post your own Mishmash.

Here's what's on my mind today:
  1. New Deal For Seek  Last Monday I told you I signed a new author to Leap Books Seek. Well, the announcement ran in Publisher's Weekly last Tuesday so I can share it now. I'm so excited to work with Sheri Larsen on Motley Education.
  2. The Haunted Realm  Emilyann Girdner has a new book out. Check out The Haunted RealmIn this riveting continuation of the story, Araina again faces a series of seemingly impossible magical obstacles. As Araina and her friends search for answers about their Creators and their magical labyrinth world, their journey becomes rife with peril when Araina falls victim to illness. Despite heart-pricking losses in the labyrinth swamps, vengeful ghostly attackers in the Blinking Willows, and many other dangerous obstacles, Araina is determined to succeed. If Araina can’t solve the mysteries of the haunted realm and find a cure for her sickness, she and her friends may never escape the labyrinth, or even live to try.
  3. Editing  I have two client edits and an edit for Leap on my plate this week. Eek!
  4. Eye Strain  I've apparently been editing too much lately. My eyes are starting to really hurt from all the computer time. Sadly, I may need to scale back on all this editing. My eyes have always been an issue and I'm starting to worry that I'm doing damage to them.
  5. Into the Fire  I've been hard at work editing Into the Fire. The book is so different now, and I love it. I can't wait to share it with you all.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. I wonder if it might be easier to print out the work and edit it on paper? I think my agent uses an iPad to edit. I don't think you can do markups in Kindle--if you can, it would be too complicated for me to figure out! It can also help to take breaks where you don't look at your computer for a few minutes every half hour or so. Just work in short spurts. Congrats again on signing a great author!

    1. You can do markups on the Kindle but it's really a pain. I don't like it.

  2. Time to get your eyes tested? Last year, I had to upgrade my reading only glasses to glasses all the time. Hope you get it sorted.

Today I submitted my novel to three literary agents - scary. I've got a play to write next and novel number 2 to start on too. May allow myself a rest from writing this week though.

  3. Congratulations to you for signing Sheri and to Sheri for her soon-to-be new book and to Emilyann for her novel.
My eyes have been bad since I was a kid. I'm limiting my computer time lately because they're getting worse.
    Have a good week.

  4. You'll have to listen to the eye doctor on this one.

  5. Congrats on the new book deal. Since I was young, I'd read a book into the night and long after the lights been turned on. Now I'm always in front of a computer either for work or writing. And my family has a history of eye problems. So of course now I have to wear computer/reading glasses. I suggest you take more breaks and using an anti-glare screen. But best thing to do would be visit the eye doctor. Good luck with your edits.

    1. Yeah, I'm trying to take breaks and stay off screens all together in my down time.

  6. Very cool, congrats to you, Kelly and to Sheri as well. Thank you so much for mentioning The Haunted Realm. Also, I'm sorry to hear about your eye strain troubles. I hope you find healing soon and can continue to edit as much as you'd like. Sending hugs! <3

  8. Congrats on the good news!
Sorry to hear about your eyes. I know it looks funny, but you may try scaling your Word page to 170% (if you don't already). It fills the screen, but does feel strange reading like that.

    1. I usually do 130%. The screen glare kills me. I try turning down the brightness and that helps a little.

  9. Editing, writing, reading for Leap Books= eye strain, no wonder. The real wonder is how you do it all and manage to volunteer at your daughter's school!

  10. Oh dear, take care of your eyes! Do you wear glasses or contacts now? If not, maybe you should get some reading ones. Congrats on the new deal w/Sheri, that's exciting!

    1. I wear contacts but I've been using my glasses more in the evenings to give me eyes a break.

    2. Lol I am Irish, but I meant "my" eyes, not "me." ;)

  11. Cool! Congrats on your book deal. Sorry about the eye strain. I've been concerned with back issues since I spend most of the day hunched over a computer.

    1. Try sitting on a yoga ball instead of a chair. It forces you to have good posture and helps with back pain.
