Happy Monday! Monday Mishmash is a weekly meme dedicated to sharing what's on your mind. Feel free to grab the button and post your own Mishmash.
Here's what's on my mind today:
- Curse of the Granville Fortune I'm putting the finishing touches on the revamped Curse of the Granville Fortune this week. My hope is to have this book out the first week in February. If you missed the cover reveal on Friday, here's the new cover:
- Into the Fire Street Team Only a few more days to apply to be part of the Into the Fire Street Team. The application closes on January 21, so get yours in now. Apply here.
- Editing I'm working my way through my January edits. How I booked so many this month is beyond me, but so far so good.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day My daughter is home today since it's a holiday. We're reading two Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and studying for math tests she has this week.
- Seeking Questions I haven't gotten any requests for Writer Wednesday topics in a while, so what do you want to know about being on the other side of the editing desk? Pick my brain, people. ;) I'm willing to share tips from my editorial desk at Leap, so ask away.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?
Mixing revision with reading - brilliant idea.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as I'm on the literary agent hunt, here's a question for you. If you keep getting your book back from agents saying that it's great, they enjoyed reading it, keep sending it out, but it's not for them (with the additional phrase that it's all subjective), does that mean that the book isn't good enough or simply that I haven't found the right agent yet?
I'll tackle that question on Wednesday, Fi! :)
DeleteBrilliant.
DeleteOH, I love the new cover more than the original one, and (speaking as a former teacher) I bet it will really appeal to the target audience!
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so happy to hear that, Dianne. :)
DeleteGreat new cover, congrats! Enjoy your day w/the kiddo and tell her good luck on that math test. They always made me sweat. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leandra!
DeleteEnjoy the time today with your daughter!
ReplyDeleteThanks, William.
DeleteQuestion: At what stage of your writing/manuscript should you hire an editor?
ReplyDeleteRead kiddo read! Oh and study too.
Great question, Sheena-kay. I'll add it to my list. Thanks!
DeleteI'm off today as well! Though, I'm not doing anything fun because all friends and family are having to work. Wasted holiday I think! :(
ReplyDeleteWell, enjoy the time to yourself. That can be nice sometimes.
DeleteI see a lot of writers revamping their books. Congrats on putting the final touches on yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lee.
DeleteI love the green background on the revamped cover.
ReplyDeleteFi's questions is a good one. I had that same problem with one of my books. I since rewrote it so I'm convinced it was probably my book and they were just being polite. I hope when I re-query I don't have the same responses. lol
I'm glad you like it, Chrys. I'll tackle that question on Monday.
DeleteHope you're enjoying your day off! I didn't get one.:/
ReplyDeleteDefinitely getting on board with the Monday Mishmash, such a good idea.
Sorry, Mich! Glad you like my Monday Mishmash. I'd love to have you join my meme.
DeleteLove the cover Kelly. And sometimes I wonder the same about how I manage to have so much on my plate. Especially when I try my hardest not put myself on too many time restraints with a lot of projects at a time. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteQuestion:Aside from getting the agent's name right, what makes a good query? Using examples, what things in a query catches an agent's eyes? Piques their interest in the book?
I'm glad you like the cover, Lidy. I'm adding your question to my topic list. I'll be answering it as an editor, but I suspect it will be similar for an agent.
DeleteLove the cover, Kelly!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Auden!
DeleteHope you had a nice day with your daughter. I love this new cover. The green and black are perfect together. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
Yay! Thanks, Jess.
DeleteI signed up! Your cover looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephanie! :)
DeleteThe cover for The CURSE of the GRANVILLE FORTUNE is top-notch!
ReplyDeleteFor Writer Wednesday i would love to know how you approach contradictory feedback to your WIP.
I'm so glad you think so, Mirka. And thanks for the question. I'm adding it to my list.
DeleteLove the new covers...eye catching!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteOh, I love the cover. Congrats. Good luck with the revisions.
