Happy Monday! Monday Mishmash is a weekly meme dedicated to sharing what's on your mind. Feel free to grab the button and post your own Mishmash.
Here's what's on my mind today:
- Editing I'm continuing to work my way through my editing schedule, which is out of control this month. 9 edits? 9? My eyes hate me right now.
- Book Order The school I visited last month just placed a large book order. Yay! Once the books come in, I get to go back and sign them all for the kids. :)
- New Book Display This past week I bought a display stand for my books, and good thing too because when I got to the book expo on Saturday I was told I had a 3X3 table even though I asked for a 3X6 table. I never would have fit my books without this display.
- Basketball Pains We got a basketball hoop last week because my nine-year-old daughter loves basketball. Well, needless to say I haven't played in a while. ;) I'm sore! It's fun though.
- Catalyst Cover Reveal Happy cover reveal day to Kristin Smith! Check out Catalyst, a YA near-future thriller coming out November 21st through Clean Teen publishing.
Too
pretty.
Too smart.
Too perfect.
In a crumbling, futuristic Las Vegas where the wealthy choose the
characteristics of their children like ordering off a drive-thru menu,
seventeen-year-old Sienna Preston doesn’t fit in. As a normal girl surrounded by
genetically modified teens, all of her imperfections are on display. But after
the death of her father, everything she's ever known and loved changes in an
instant.
With little skills to help provide for her family, Sienna clings
to the two things that come easily—lying
and stealing. But not all thief-for-hire assignments go as planned. When a
covert exchange of a stolen computer chip is intercepted, she becomes entangled
with a corrupt government official who uses her thieving past as leverage, her
mother as collateral, and the genetically modified poster boy she’s falling
for as bait.
In order to rescue her mother, there may only be one option—joining forces with the Fringe,
an extremist group, and their young leader who’s too hot to be bad. Problem
is, these revolutionaries aren’t what they seem, and the secrets they’re
hiding could be more dangerous than Sienna is prepared for. In the end, she
must be willing to risk everything to save the one thing that matters most.
9 edits is insane and I hope your eyeballs survive. It's been years since I shot hoops. However, my playing involved horse, not an actual basketball game.
ReplyDeleteI can't even tell you how angry I am at myself for letting this happen.
DeleteThe busy keeps the money coming in though, which is always a good thing. Love the new book display and brilliant about the school's book order.
ReplyDeleteI'm still Camp NaNoWriMo-ing and submitting my first novel to lit agents. Have had a couple more rejections so feeling a bit sensitive about it all. Still, onwards and upwards, so I submitted it to another two agents last night.
Have a great week.
Good luck. Remember we all get rejections.
DeleteYou just have WAYYYY too many books! I don't know if I'll ever have that problem. That's a good stand to know about, though...very handy. It's like shopping for magazines at a newsstand!
ReplyDeleteThe stand made me feel like I was my own mini bookstore. ;)
DeleteEek! It's so exciting to see Kimberly's cover out in the world! And congrats on the big book order, that's always awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly! Thank you so much for sharing the cover for Catalyst! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your stand! I can't get over all your books displayed. It has to give you a great sense of satisfaction when you see all those book and know they're YOURS! Awesome. ;)
It's kind of crazy when I put all my books together like that and see how many there are.
DeleteI love that display stand.
ReplyDeleteI do like Kristin's cover! Good idea for the display stand.
ReplyDeleteI really like it
DeleteThat stand looks really nice. Good thing you had it. Catalyst cover looks amazing and that plot is just delish. Must know more. In March I had a drop in orders and it affected my budget, so pity from me. Work on girl and make that green! Never know when a lean month will drop in and you have mouths to feed.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a slow month in a really long time. I kind of miss it.
DeleteI love Kristin's cover. That stand looks awesome. Those stands save a lot of space.
ReplyDeleteThey really do.
DeleteI think that it is wonderful that you are willing to go back to the school to sign books. What a fantastic keepsake those children will have. <3 :)
ReplyDeleteOf course I am. It's going to be a lot of fun. :)
DeleteLots of edits! Good luck! So happy for you about the book order. :) Awesome cover on Kristin's book!

Thanks!
DeleteThanks for blitzing me :) Great exercise with the basketball hoop and fun times with your daughter :)

I'm a runner, so I'm definitely using muscles I'm not used to using. It's an arm and back workout! LOL
DeleteNINE Edits? I wonder how you organize your work time to carve hours for your own writing, and hours for looking over others', and if you worry about getting the writing voices cross-pollinating. Maybe this is a good question for Wednesdays posts. Editing/critiquing for others is something I have to do only once my first drafts are done.
ReplyDeleteIt is very hard to do both at the same time.
DeleteVery cool. The publisher sounds cool too. Busy week for you as usual.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is nine, Kelly? Nine? Wow, time - rocket speed, man. Your book display looks very good.
ReplyDeleteYes. I can't believe my baby is nine already!
