Monday Mishmash 2/27/12

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:

  1. Birthday parties  My daughter had her 5th birthday party yesterday. It was fun but exhausting.
  2. Author events  Last week was crazy busy with three author events, but I had a blast at all of them. Signings and school visits are such a great time.
  3. Drafting again  Now that my busy week is over I intend to finish my WIP this week. As much fun as last week was, I'm happy to get back to writing, writing, writing!
  4. Leap Day  I love Leap Day. That's one extra day to write!
  5. Reading  I haven't had as much time to read lately, and it's making me a little sad. I have to squeeze more time in my day.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. Great attitude with number 4! I haven't done a ton of writing lately. The kids have been keeping me busy. Today is the day I reorder some backstory in my YA novel and get ready to submit. Hoping to be done within a month!

  2. Happy belated Bday to your daughter for me :) Oooh hadn't even thought of the 29th. But you are right. An extra day to write. Wish it would be declared a holiday :D
    Good luck with your WIP.

    1. Cecilia, that would be nice if Leap Day was a holiday for everyone. I love that idea. ;)

  4. Happy birthday to your daughter!

Nothing special on my mind today -- translating, blogging, doing laundry and the other chores, the usual. :)

  5. Happy birthday to your little beauty.

On my mind today. Studying, hopefully writing, household chores. Things are settling down, and writing related things are getting more time.

    Best wishes on your books.

  6. An extra day is exciting. I hadn't even thought about Leap Year.

Today, I have promotional items on my mind. My books going to print in a few days and I haven't decided what to get yet. Everything looks so amazing it's hard to choose. Hopefully I'll have something ordered in the next couple of days.:)

  7. I'm revising. Between reading and correcting student essays. And skimming Chaucer to teach The Miller's Tale this week.

  8. Glad the party was fun! I am sure you need a day to recover. I love Leap Day, too! I feel like I am getting some extra time. I have so much to do- I can use a couple more Leap Days. :) Happy writing!

  9. Kelly, I agree on #5. I love to read, which is of course one of the reasons I became a writer. Now in order to have more time to write, I must read less. I've been seriously thinking about giving up TV recently. I never thought I'd do that. Now if I could convince the rest of the family, I'd save money too!

My Monday thought is that I got a new computer and I'm so excited about that. It had a sticker on it when I opened it that says, "Beauty. Brains. Bigtime possibilities." I'm liking that.

    1. Love the sticker! Enjoy your new computer. I watch very little TV because I need the time to write and read, so I'm with you there!

  10. Good luck with your drafting. I have about two or three more scenes to write for my WIP, so I am focusing on that this week.

  11. I get sad when I don't have enough time to read too! I'm back to editing today, but on a new collection. :)

  14. There should definitely be some kind of international Leap Day celebration! Things on my mind include pounding out some more words on my work in progress and revising a completed story. I got some really great editorial feedback that I'm excited to incorporate!

  16. Happy 5th Birthday to your daughter--belated of course. Great perspective on Leap Year--one more day to write. I've been trying to get in some reading. Seems like the only time these days is when I at the gym.

I'm deep into another revision of my WIP. I hope to have it out to some beta's in a couple weeks.

Hope you're having a great day!

    1. Good luck. We did the family only party, which is easier, but everyone came at different times, and that's a little crazy! I hope your party goes smoothly.

  18. Your daughter and my son share a birthday! He turned 7 yesterday. Happy Birthday to her!

Leap Day is such a novelty, it's fun. It would be fun to have Leap Day festivities and the like. A holiday that had nothing to do with gift giving!

  20. Finishing a WIP? That's big news! Congratulations.

I'm doing a final edit on one, but my mind keeps drifting to the one I started while letting the first one marinate. I'm having trouble concentrating.

I love birthday parties. I used to throw tea parties for my daughters on their birthdays so all their friends could show up in dress-up clothes and bring their favorite stuffed animal.

    Enjoy your reading!

    1. Judy, I have an idea for a new MS in my head and it's screaming at me to finish this one so I can write the new one while this one sits. Characters can be so demanding. ;)

  22. Happy birthday to your daughter. Enjoy those kid birthdays while they last. They're a lot of work but eventually they go away and then you'll miss them. I know what I'm talking about...

  23. How about Tuesday thoughts? I am always chasing my tale with comments. I am working on a second MS now. I swear the second one is SO MUCH easier than the first. I hope your sweet girl had a good bday.

  26. As busy as you are, you are doing so well keeping your work and your home life on an even keel. I don't know how you get the energy to do book signings along with all this. As for reading, sigh, I think many of us miss those days! I am trying to read my Goodreads goal this year, tho.
