Monday Mishmash 4/23/12

Happy Monday! Here's what's on my mind:

  1. Pocono Retreat  I spent the weekend at my regional SCBWI conference, and as usual I learned a lot. I also got to meet my agency sister, Diane Alberts, which was so great! And did I mention I met and shook hands with Laurie Halse Anderson? :D
  2. New New story idea  No, that's not a typo. I was already working on a new story idea when another new idea came to me. I'm very excited about it.
  3. More time  I have so much I want to do each day, but I can't find time to do it all. It looks like I'm going to have to give up some sleep this week.
  4. New look of Blogger  I went to write this post and realized Blogger gave it's administrative panel a facelift. Not sure if I like it. I'm kind of a creature of habit, so when things change I need time to adjust.
  5. Winner of my Touch of Death SWAG giveaway  My giveaway ended on the 21st, and the winner is... Hillary Curran! Congrats! I've sent you an email so you can claim your prizes.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  1. Isn't that always the way with time, sigh. The Pocono Retreat sounds inspiring and fun, glad you had a good weekend.

    1. Oh, time. I need to get a better handle on it. There must be more time in my day somewhere.

The Retreat was such a great time. I'm so glad I got to go.

  2. Looks like you had a good time at the conference :) Oh, the new blogger is quite strange to me too. Quite frustrating. Cool about the new new story idea. :)

    1. My scheduled posts are not posting. I woke up this morning and I have to go in and manually post this even though I had it scheduled for 6AM. Frustrating.

    2. My didn't post either. Glad to see it wasn't only me. Being a technophobe, sometimes I wonder.

Good luck with your new new idea. :)

    4. They best, since there forcing us into it, or I'm going to to have to move T.A.A. to Wordpress, which I tried to do, but screwed it up, so if I do that, I need to pony up a techie to do it, so that all my comments from past posts will carry over.

I like the sleek look from aesthetic standpoint, but it's hard to use functionally, and if they don't improve the usability of the the new motif, I'm moving to Wordpress.

    5. I actually opened a Wordpress account before Blogger and I couldn't figure it out. Wordpress has a lot of limitation Blogger doesn't have, including following options. I think Blogger is more follower friendly. I'd rather it be easier for others to follow and comment than for me to post. Though before this dashboard switch, I had no complaints at all.

  3. Wow, sounds like this was *the* weekend for conferences/retreats! New England and I think Western Washington were this weekend, too.

Have fun with your NEW NEW idea!

  5. Great to see you again this weekend, Kelly. Was there any mention on Sunday about the new venue for next year?

  6. I'm not sure if I like the new look either. I find my dashboard harder to navigate, and I've lost track of some of my blogging buds. Grr....

  7. Kelly, congrats on the new ideas. Isn't that fun when they come to you? Alas, it just means more time needed to work on them. What a lovely place for a retreat. Has to be inspirational. I'm with you on changes. I want to get right to work writing, not adapting to a new style. And congrats to Hillary.

    1. Thanks, Donna. Yes, if only I had more time. I just accepted a job, too. So now I'm really strapped for time.

  8. Glad to hear the retreat was a hit. This week is catch up. I unplugged this weekend to work on edits so my email is a bit of a hot mess. :)

  9. Cool, glad you had a fun time at your retreat! I'm going to one in the middle of May. Squeee! I'm freaked out and excited at the same time.

Congrats, Hillary! (You get the bloodstone. Jealousy!! LOL)

  10. Time...*sigh* :)

I am trying to fix a disaster, which happened last monday. My website and email went kaplooey, and the tech support available to me is clueless. I think it'll be better for my mental health if I went elsewhere...

  13. I know what you mean, I was surprised by the new blogger look as well. Haven't they ever heard the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?"

  14. I definitely don't like the new Blogger dashboard look, Kelly. It's going to be hard to get used to!

And speaking of time, there's not enough of it, I agree. I too have so much I want to do. I need to stop committing to different things before I finish others.

  16. Adapt to changes :( one of the hardest thing to do/

  17. I'm adjusting to the new Blogger.

I've read about the Poconos retreat before. I really want to go since I've never been in the area, plus there's SCBWI.

    1. Medeia, it's changing locations next year, which I'm not happy about. It's been at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort for years and that's only 10 minutes from my house. Next year it will be in Honesdale.

  18. It sounds like you had a great time at your conference. Yeah! I am a creature of habit, too. Everything is changing on me at once- fb, my email, and now blogger. I need something to stay the same for me for a little while. I don't like adjusting to so many things at once. Good luck getting used to the new format. Happy writing- how exciting that you have another book idea!

  19. Kelly, knowing you - time will be found. You could have my schedule, writing on the train and between meetings, and again at night. I know you and your love for writing is beyond words. You'll write. Don't give up sleep, don't deprive yourself of time with yourself or you're loved ones, let the dust bunnies linger a little longer. You'll write it.

I got nothing on my mind ( oh, yeah, there's the on going writing that is ever present in my head).

  20. I am going to blog ahead this week so I don;t always feel so left behind. I promised my hubby that I was taking a manuscript break. I scheduled all the appointments that I have been putting off. Playing catch up. Lots of clients, too but itching to get back to work!

  21. Your retreat sounds amazing. You're the third writer that's said they've either just been or are going to a writers' retreat. I'm so envious. I'd take a dog catchers' retreat at this point.

    1. Yes, there are so many conferences and retreats this month. I love it. Dog catchers, huh? LOL.

  22. So good you enjoyed the conference. I'm feeling like going to one about now... But it's hard finding sitters for me to get to one.
Decluttering is on my mind, and it's interrupting my writing time!

    1. Sitters can be tough to come by. That's why I'm glad when I come across on-line conferences.

      Good luck decluttering!

  23. Another good week for you. Yup, life juggling, writing, children (whoops - dropped one) and all the bits in between is a challenge.

    On my mind this week:

    - my website which I'm making a lot of progress on but it's rather challenging my brain.
    - my work in progress, which has been left on the back burner while I work on the website. It keeps chatting to me though, hence a lot of note taking before I got to sleep.

  24. Ahh, time. Even though I'm not working anymore, I still can't find enough time to get everything done. Maybe it's supposed to be that way so that we will have a reason to get up the next day? We have a list to get to!! LOL

  25. Hi Kelly...Ah, Monday Mishmash...my favorite day, especially when my ADD is hitting its stride.
Excited for you that you're getting so many new ideas for stories. That's a good thing.

I am always in need of more time...but can't cut back on sleep, that definitely affects my creativity and thinking ability...not good for productive writing.

New look of Blogger: Yeah, this really got to me too. And I'm on so many sites, that one of them is always changing. It takes time to get used to a new format. And time is of the essence.
