Monday Mishmash

Happy Monday! Here's my mishmash of thoughts:

  1. Giveaway winner!  Congrats to Amber Garcia. She won the zombie deer, compact mirror, bookmark, and sticker. Amber, I've emailed you to get your mailing address.
  2. Edits  Last week was an intense few days of editing for Touch of Death, but it's finished! Yay!
  3. Back to planning  While I wait for edits on the sequel to Touch of Death, I'll be continuing to plan the next manuscript I have in mind. Planning is so exciting!
  4. Reading  Last week was really busy for me and my reading suffered. I'm hoping to catch up this week.
  5. Picture book sketches  My editor told me I'd get to see sketches for one of my upcoming picture books this week. Seeing how an illustrator pictures my characters is always exciting.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?

  3. Do you find when you're planning a new idea that a couple of ideas sort of gallop off, and later when you look at the plan you have to shake your head at the plot outline?...or is that just me :)

    1. To be honest, I rarely use my notes when I'm drafting. I let the characters lead me. My planning is more for getting to know my characters and the general story, but I stray from it all the time.

    2. I'm with you there, Kelly! Once those characters begin to develop they really do take on a life of their own and take us writers in directions we haven't necessarily expected. It's part of the fun of writing fiction! You sound incredibly busy. I'm in awe of writers with more than one project on the go. How do you do it?

    3. Writing full time really helps. During the school year, I get a lot done because I'm the only one home. That means a lot of writing. :)

  4. Congrats on the finished edits, Kelly. You're right: planning a new novel (or a sequel) is always exciting. :) I'm writing out the ending of my MG novel this and next week while I wait for more illustrations for the next PB to be turned in. Students are preparing for the exams and we're swamped with revisions. Help ~

  14. I love the whole planning thing!

The only problem I have is that I love planning so much that I never get to the writing part. lol

Actually, I have to give myself props. I wrote 1500 words yesterday to add to my WIP. :D

    1. Yay! Great job, Diane.

Yeah, at some point you have to say that's enough planning and just write the thing. ;)

  15. Congrats to Amber! Happy to have finished a piece for another site ( their subject was 'Heat' for the month of August. It was hanging over me like a anvil. I wrote three pieces before I got the one I wanted. Glad it's behind me. And congrats on finishing the edits, that must be a relief. Are you getting excited or have you moved beyond that stage into raw energy?

Beyond that, I'm starting to plan the next book, which will be a prequel.
