- Touch of Death Galley I'm proofreading the galley of my book! Eep! I'm so excited. It looks gorgeous, and I couldn't be happier with how Spencer Hill Press has made this book shine. :D
- Guest Post Last Friday, I did a guest post on Cecilia Robert's blog. I talked all about creating memorable heroes and villains. Check it out here.
- Free Newsletter My free monthly newsletter goes out this evening. If you aren't signed up to receive it and you want to, click here.
- Picture book sketches I got to see the sketches for one of my upcoming picture books and they are adorable! I'm so happy with them. I love seeing my story through the eyes of an illustrator.
That's it for me. What's on your mind today?
Awww sounds like you're having an exciting week! It always fun to see how an illustrator views one's characters :) Question. So do the Galleys look like as close to how the book will look when published or still working on final touches? Curious.
ReplyDeleteThey do look very close. We have some minor things we have to tweak thanks to the programming and the formatting issues it can cause, but other than that, Touch of Death is almost ready for the world! :D
DeleteHave just signed up to your newsletter. Your week sounds very exciting already.
ReplyDeleteAfter a lovely family day out yesterday, I feel recharged and inspired this morning (not normal for a Monday). I'm making lots of progress with my WiP and life in general feels good.
That's great, Fi. Family is good for making you feel inspired. I hope you make a lot of progress today.
DeleteOh, and thank you for signing up for my newsletter. :)
I am starting two very long days of work and then celebrating my son's bday at a waterpark. Have to squeeze in my writing nights and early mornings!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your son! Have a great time at the water park. And good luck squeezing in writing time. I'm blogging about just that later this week. ;)
DeleteHi Lady. Can you do me a guesdt post pz??? You know what I like. And can I do one for you?? x Have a nice day. You sound busybusy.
ReplyDeleteWe can definitely work that out. :)
DeleteLots of exciting stuff going on! Good for you =)
ReplyDeleteI just noticed all the books coming out in the next two years. You've been busy!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to finish the first draft of a new wip before my due date in october.
Yes, I like to be busy. :)
DeleteGood luck with your WIP.
KatieC has left a new comment on your post "Monday Mishmash 8/6/12":
ReplyDeleteOn my mind is a lot of impatience!!! Why don't things always work exactly as they should and in a timely manner? LOL

Katie, my blog is misbehaving for you again. Sorry.
DeleteOh, patience is something I really need to work on. I hear you!
My first time paying tuition for my daughter...
ReplyDeleteI think I'm not going to like this very much. I'll have to console myself and write. :)
Ooh, I can understand why you don't like it.
DeleteOh, and congrats. I want to see those pictures now. :D
ReplyDeleteI'll be sure to share as soon as I can. :)
DeleteJust saw you on Annette's blog. You sound sooo busy in a wonderful way!
ReplyDeleteYes, the lovely Annette is hosting me today. :) I love to be busy.
DeleteGets really exciting when you see the galleys. Enjoy proofing!
ReplyDeleteYAY!! You're reading the galley. That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have an exciting week in store! For me - lots on the calendar: visits from family, Night to Unite, Coldplay. Hope to get some writing time in! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all that, Sara!
DeleteI'm such a picture book fan. I have a small collection because I buy them for children in my family, and then can't part with them. I wind up having to buy another present. Oye! Lovely about your galley.
ReplyDeleteYay on the galley!! That's got to be both thrilling and terrifying. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still doing revisions....*sigh* Better get back to it.
Good luck with them, Tabitha!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful way to start a week! Enjoy the galleys and sketches. I was revising my MS and after two more blog-reads, I'm going to concentrate on watching 'Sherlock.'
ReplyDeleteClaudine, I'm definitely not complaining. :) Have fun watching Sherlock!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting to the Galley stage. It's getting closer to January every day!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is! :D
DeleteHey! Nice new picture! Which picture book is this?
ReplyDeleteThanks. I hate myself in pictures. LOL
DeleteThe picture book is Magic at the Museum. I can't say much just yet because the contract isn't finalized until we officially sign on an illustrator. These sketches were for me to approve, which I did in a heartbeat. I love them. :)
Nice! I'll be watching to see what happens.
DeleteSo funny you posted again because my contract is ready. :) You bring me good luck, Kiersi.
DeleteI like to start my Mondays with your Mishmash- because it is a kick-in-the-pants and a reminder that here's Kelly, a busy mother who manages to do what I and four others couldn't in that space/time.
ReplyDeleteGood guest post also. In Novels character is everything.
Your new picture is lovely.
You give me too much credit.
DeleteI hate myself in pictures, but I haven't updated my photo in a while so it was time.
How fun to see the new pictures. I can imagine it is an awesome feeling. It sounds like the edits are going well! Can't wait for the book.
ReplyDeleteI am busy getting ready to go back to school. Have to set up my classroom and do all kinds of school related things. My mind is going a mile a minute- because I also have people to visit, writing to get done, and books to read! I need to slow down time. :)
Good luck getting everything ready, Stephanie!
DeleteSounds exciting! Me, I'm mostly trying to survive the heat.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. It's killer out there.
DeleteIt's a holiday today, and my city's very busy today, with a busker's festival, Colonel By Day, and the Rideau Canal festival. All of which is a good distraction... which I need at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you do. My thoughts are with you, William.
DeleteToday, I'm thinking, "Whew! Maybe life will settle back onto an even keel, now!"
ReplyDeleteYay for the galley! Yay for the picture book illustrations! Yay for the guest post! Yay, yay, yay!
Thanks, Kat! I hope things settle down for you. I know you've been busy.
DeleteCongrats on the interview. I enjoyed reading it. This is truly a hodge-podge of a list. How fun.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's just how my mind works on Mondays. LOL
DeleteOh how exciting, proofing a galley and seeing sketches. Enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like there's a bunch of good news there. I hope mana from heaven keeps flowing to you. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lexa!
DeleteYeah, the galley...what fun. Enjoy it and hug it and smell the pages. I love the smell of a new book.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the printed one yet. It's the pdf. Printed comes next. Yay!
DeleteEeek! So much goodness for you this week. Congrats! On my mind is the following:
ReplyDelete1. Camp NaNoWriMo: need to get cracking if I want to finish.
2. Clutter: My house is getting out of hand.
3. Fitness: Making sure I keep my gym schedule during this busy month.
4. Heat: The ridiculous heat wave has broken for a couple of days.
5. Niece: She just got married and I'm sorry, but she's entirely too young to do such a thing. I don't care if she was 40. It makes me feel old. :)
Thanks, Adrianne.
Delete1. Yes, get writing. :)
2. I hear you. My husband is a pack rat. It's a constant battle there.
3. I'm about to go on my run this morning.
4. Ugh, I can't stand this heat.
5. LOL. This is how I feel when I see former students. They make me feel really old.
Wow! Proofreading your galleys sounds like so much fun! :) And seeing illustrations of your picture book as well. Sounds like an exciting week for you!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely is. :)
DeleteThanks for the mention. Your guest post was totally fun. It's interesting to see how someone views your characters through their sketches. I think it's super fun! Oh, and the galley.I'd cuddle with mine. :)
ReplyDeleteJust subscribed to the monthly newsletter. My kids arrived yesterday from their holiday, so today I'm so excited - as my daughter is - to go watch Brave. It hit the theatres on the second August. Yay!
Enjoy Brave with your kids! And thanks again for having me on your blog.
DeleteIt's a fantastic feeling to look at one's galley.
ReplyDeleteI'll check out the guest post.
Thanks, Medeia!
