ReplyDeleteTypos...
ReplyDeleteI had good memorial day weekend. I made enough food to last a week and a half, which is good, since I'll be so busy with my blog and WIP novel I won't have as much time during the week to cook, which I love as much as writing.
I took some time off the blog to work on my first book reviews for my blog, and finish my welcome video for VIBC (Video Idiot Boot Camp, a how-to course on creating videos) and it came out great.
I wasn't able to be on camera as planned because video footage of me looked WAY too grainy and shaky for even passable quality status, so I'll invest in a nice webcam over the summer. They've come down a lot in price since they first came out (These were the pre-Kindle Amazon days, kids) over a decade ago.
I second taking pictures, Kelly. Also, if you find any interesting animal fantasy titles, can you try to get good shots of the covers, I'd love to share that on my blog. Maybe their authors and/or illustrators, too.
I hope someday we can do a writer promo event together, after your middle grade novel "Into The Fire" and mine comes out, if you get to hold an event in either Michigan or Chicago, we should meet up.
I'm hoping to save up for B.E.A. (Book Expo America) the year after my middle grade novel comes out.
I still may get to do some traveling this year, but it's up in the air right now, and that would be leisure more than business, though I might sneak some in.
Taurean, I missed your birthday. I'm so sorry. I hope it was a great one.
DeleteMy middle grade is actually Curse of the Granville Fortune. It's set to release in October of 2014. When's yours coming out?
Videos are tricky. They look good on screen and then during playback you see all the issues with being grainy.
Sorry about the mix up, you have so many books coming out I get them confused.
DeleteI remember reading part of that when were in the same critque group, I hope I'm remembering that right.
I don't know what even my tentative release YEAR is yet, never mind a specific date, but I figure it won't be this year, which gives me time to do some networking and early promo stuff.
Remember, I just finalized the contract in January-March, I know this all takes time, but it's hard to know what I can do promo wise when I don't even have a rough time table.
For me, it was just lack of quality equipment, I'm not super techie, but I know enough for the videos I'm doing.
I was trying to use various smartphones (Mine and relatives, and it just didn't look good, I'll just get a webcam for my desktop and a good mic and I'll be okay quality wise.
Sometimes you just need to upgrade your equipment.
Don't worry, I missed some key birthdays because I got sick in February and was so busy with my site, I know you were thinking of me, even if you couldn't stop by.
DeleteYes, you did read some of my MG novel. :)
DeleteEquipment upgrade is becoming more and more necessary as the time goes by. Seems like technology is outdated so quickly.
True, but at least it doesn't HAVE to cost the thousands of dollars it used to when it was all new (Remember how much DVDs cost when they were cutting edge? 50 USD a disc, and you often go only three episodes of any given show, no bonus features or even previews of upcoming titles, dvd sets like we have now costs 100 USD and up, etc.
DeleteBlu-rays saw a similar spike, but it's coming down, other tech's the same way.
A busy and exciting time this week, Kelly. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terrie!
DeleteCongratulations on the new releases! The picture book sounds cute. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I go for the good boy. :) Did the bad boy thing when I was young, they're not all their cracked up to be. ;)
I think a lot of people come to realize that in the end, but we do need to get that bad boy phase out of our system first. ;)
DeleteI am determined that next year I will be at BEA. I better start saving for my plane ticket now. :) Have a great time.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the hotels alone are ridiculously expensive, but there was no way I was missing my first BEA signing. It's a dream come true for me. :)
DeleteHave fun at BEA!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie!
DeleteHave fun at BEA. It's funny how many writers I know who are going to be there this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Angelia!
DeleteHope you're feeling better, and have a wonderful time at BEA!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Meradeth!
DeleteI hate to admit it but I love the bad boys :)

ReplyDeleteThanks, Catherine!
DeleteCongrats on all your good news! And I work in a museum, so anything on that topic definitely interests me. :)
ReplyDeleteOh yay! I love museums and hope the book inspires the same love in kids. :)
DeleteGreat post, Kelly! I like it that you're not shy with videos. I just had a blogging friend ask to interview me on a writing vlog. I was like WHAT?
ReplyDeleteHahahaha. I don't know how you do it, but you're a natural.
Oh, I look awful in that video. LOL Kind of like how I looked terrible in the Touch of Death ARC video where I cried more than talked. But, that's me. I'm an open book. :)
DeleteKelly, you are one awesome lady. You go!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHave fun at the BEA! How exciting! Can't wait to hear all about it. :)
