Next Big Thing

Okay, so I was tagged again in The Next Big Thing. I know, I know, I've done this twice already. I promise this is the last one. You see, I was tagged by Keren Spencer, who happens to be one of the biggest Touch of Death supporters and an all-around amazing person. I couldn't say no to her, and since Love All is about to release, I thought it made sense to do this again. So Keren, this is for you. (I was also just tagged by June OHaraEmilyann Girdner, and Cindy Brown. Thanks, June and Cindy.)

What is the working title of your next book?
Love All

Where did the idea come from for the book?
I hate to admit to having been in a few love triangles in high school and college, but I was. This book came about because I really do think it's possible to care about more than one person at a time.

What genre does your book fall under?
YA contemporary romance

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Annasophia Robb for Meg

Steven R McQueen for Ash (Yes, that's Jeremy from The Vampire Diaries)
And Freddie Stroma for Noah

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Sometimes the best cure for a heartbreak is to love again, but what happens when that love falls on two different guys?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
I'm represented by Lauren Hammond of ADA Management and Love All is being published by Swoon Romance.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
About two and a half weeks

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I hate comparing my work to other people, so I'll just say it's YA comtemporary romance and leave it at that.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
The book is about how amazing first love is, so I think first loves in general were a huge inspiration.

What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?
The MC is a tennis player, so tennis fans will enjoy Meg's matches as well as her romances.

I'm supposed to tag 5 others, but I like to break rules. So... if you haven't been tagged yet and you'd like to join in, then tag! For the rest of you, what's your current WIP about?

  1. I was tagged awhile back so will pass.

My current wip is about four teens that form a club to survive their families and school. Survivors' Club.

  2. Boy, you write fast! I'm still working on the sequel to Fireseed, which focuses on a girl who escapes from the desert cult.

    1. LOL. This is a novella so it didn't take long at all to write.

  3. How long is this novella? Anyway I love YA, probably because of the first love thing too. I'm working on short Adult Contemporary Romance. And it needs to be submitted by Saturday. I love to be last minute.

    1. Love All is just shy of 17K. That's the limit for Swoon Romance. There are three books in the series though.

      Good luck with your novel!

  7. It took you two and a half weeks??!! My last WIP took me 8 months to write the first draft, and then 4 months to revise it. I must be doing something wrong...

    1. I used to draft at that pace. Then I learned to fast draft. I love it. I fought it for so long, thinking I'd never be able to write a novel that quickly, but now I can't go back.

  8. Once again, you are champion when it comes to breezing through a first draft. Ugh!! I'm so struggling with my MG, right now. I think way too much. I just need to plot it out and then write it. #slapsforehead 'think like Kelly, think like Kelly'

    LOL
(btw - you tagged me like forever ago...I wrote the post but haven't been able to squeeze it into my posting schedule yet; hoping to do so soon...)

    1. Yes, I remember. I felt bad posting again but I hate saying no to people. LOL

As for your MG, try sitting down with pen and paper and plotting out the main points. Then just type away. Don't think. Let your characters lead you. That's what works for me. Good luck.

    1. Yeah, this one has been around for a long time. Most people I know have already been tagged, which is why I'm not tagging specific people.

  10. What a great concept, Kelly. I haven't been in a situation like that, so I would be really interested on the main character's perspective on that.
I also love that you picked another Vampire Diaries actor. That is a great show and does have some really strong actors.
On a side note - January is almost here! You must be getting very excited about releases =)

    1. Yes! I'm seriously overjoyed. Love All on the 8th and Touch of Death on the 15th! Eee!

This concept really hit home for me because I've been in this situation. The story isn't what happened to me though. It's completely fictional. Still, the emotions are real.

    1. I am a tennis player. :) My MC even plays the same position I did in high school. :) Do you play?
